Job description

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join an established data engineering team and own complex technical problems end to end. The team is in the final phases of a high-visibility, multi-year profitability product that is a top priority for the business with a wide internal audience. The infrastructure and architecture are already in place on a modern, AWS-native platform. You will build and improve the pipelines behind this mature product, raise the quality of the work around you, and mentor other engineers. This is a highly capable individual contributor role with leadership through influence and no formal people management.

What You’ll Do

  • Own data engineering solutions end to end, from design through build, testing, deployment, and operational support

  • Design and build AWS-native pipelines using Python, PySpark, and SQL

  • Lead technical design discussions, weigh trade-offs, and guide the team toward sound engineering decisions

  • Mentor other engineers, support onboarding, and review code and pull requests

  • Partner with product and business stakeholders to turn requirements into working solutions

  • Contribute to future development of the profitability product following go-live

  • Reinforce and model SDLC principles and enterprise engineering best practices

Requirements

5+ years of data engineering experience, data-focused throughout (not a recent developer-to-data pivot)

  • Recent hands-on AWS experience within the last one to two years, deep in AWS-native services

  • AWS Lambda for microservices

  • Python and PySpark, with language proficiency weighing more than specific tool knowledge

  • Strong SQL, assumed as a baseline at this level

  • Analytical data warehousing: Redshift preferred. Databricks or Snowflake acceptable with strong SQL and PySpark and the ability to transfer quickly

  • Enterprise or midsize-to-large organization background with a genuine understanding of why SDLC discipline matters in a mature environment

  • Strong communication skills for stakeholder-facing situations

  • Experience mentoring and guiding engineers and influencing technical decisions without formal authority

  • Stable employment history

Preferred

  • AWS Glue, or the ability to pick it up quickly given strong PySpark

  • AWS Step Functions for complex orchestration

  • Event-driven architecture: S3 event notifications, SNS, SQS, and pub/sub patterns

  • Finance or profitability modeling domain background

  • SQL Server and SSIS background, helpful for legacy context

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
