Job description

The Federal Reserve Board’s Data Architecture, Technology, and Analytics (DATA) team is seeking a Senior Data Architect/Engineer to support the Division of Research & Statistics. This role focuses on modernizing and optimizing data architecture, enabling efficient ingestion, storage, and analytics for economic policy and research data. The ideal candidate is a hands-on data engineer and architect with strong expertise in data modeling, pipeline development, and large-scale systems., Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and data architecture Develop scalable solutions for data ingestion, processing, and analytics Collaborate with economists and research teams to deliver data solutions Improve and redesign existing data systems and workflows Ensure efficient data delivery and accessibility across teams Perform root cause analysis and optimize data processes Support enterprise-level data architecture design (conceptual, logical, physical)

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field 7+ years of relevant experience (Advanced degree preferred) Technical Skills (Must-Have) Strong expertise in SQL with RDBMS (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL) Advanced programming in Python and/or R Experience with large-scale distributed data systems Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT pipeline development Strong experience building scalable data platforms and processing frameworks Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, AWS Step Functions) Experience with data migration (on-prem to cloud) Strong knowledge of structured & unstructured data processing Proficiency in Linux environments and Git (GitHub/GitLab) Advanced / Desired Skills Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Snowflake) Data warehouse design with CDC (Change Data Capture) Experience with DataOps, CI/CD pipelines Knowledge of NoSQL and graph databases Programming experience in Java, Scala, JavaScript, or Perl Experience with machine learning model development & deployment Understanding of time series data & forecasting techniques Experience with economic or financial data (preferred) Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and stakeholder management Customer-focused with self-driven mindset Ability to work across multiple teams and priorities, Strong data engineering + architecture background Experience working in research or analytics-driven environments Passion for building next-gen data platforms Comfortable working in complex, high-impact environments
