Job description

Seeking a Sr. Application Engineer to lead the design, development, and support of enterprise applications built with Microsoft Azure and no-code/low-code platforms. This hands-on role combines software engineering, application architecture, code reviews, technical leadership, and mentorship.

The position is part of Application Engineering within the Digital Engineering Group and supports custom Azure development (C#/.NET, Python, React), Power Apps, Power Automate, and integrations with Appian-based solutions. The role partners closely with Architecture, Product Management, Cybersecurity, Cloud, Data, Support, Integration, and Quality Engineering teams. No direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, deployment, and support of Azure and low-code applications.
  • Develop solutions using C#/.NET, Python, React, Azure services, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
  • Build APIs, business logic, data-access components, reusable libraries, templates, and prototypes.
  • Modernize legacy applications, spreadsheets, and manual processes.
  • Establish engineering standards through code reviews, reusable components, best practices, and mentoring.
  • Evaluate when to use low-code solutions versus custom development based on complexity, security, maintainability, and cost.
  • Manage application lifecycle processes, versioning, deployments, and environment promotion.
  • Collaborate with Integration Engineering on APIs, event-driven services, interfaces, and error handling.
  • Partner with Quality Engineering on automated testing, regression coverage, release readiness, and testability.
  • Integrate enterprise identity, data, AI, document, and notification services.
  • Implement secure development practices including authentication, authorization, managed identities, secrets management, and least-privilege access.
  • Utilize source control, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, logging, and observability practices.
  • Support production releases, troubleshoot complex incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of application development/software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of technical leadership, design guidance, code reviews, and mentoring.
  • Strong hands-on experience with C#/.NET, Python, React, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience developing business applications and workflow automation using Power Apps and Power Automate.
  • Knowledge of software design, domain modeling, relational databases, API development, and enterprise application architecture.
  • Experience with REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and enterprise integrations.
  • Understanding of authentication, authorization, identity federation, service identities, secrets management, and secure development.
  • Experience with Git/source control, CI/CD, testing, release management, and application monitoring.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across application, integration, data, configuration, and performance issues, with the ability to communicate effectively to technical and business stakeholders.
