Linux Systems Administrator-LAMP

Senior Linux Systems Administrator is needed to support our higher education client, a global leader in delivering innovative online learning solutions to support a large-scale Linux infrastructure estate and e-learning platforms, including Moodle, within their platform services team., This is a hands-on infrastructure role combining BAU support, project delivery, automation and platform improvements. You will work across a modern Ubuntu estate hosted in Azure, alongside an established Red Hat environment running on VMware.

The role will suit an experienced Linux specialist, ideally with strong Ubuntu administration skills, a solid understanding of LAMP environments and practical experience of Bash scripting and Ansible automation.

Senior Linux Systems Administrator- LAMP- Essential Experience

• Strong hands-on experience administering Linux environments, ideally Ubuntu.
• Good knowledge of web technologies and LAMP/LEMP architectures.
• Experience configuring and supporting Apache or Nginx web servers.
• Strong understanding of PHP and MySQL environments.
• Knowledge of web technologies and authoring BASH/Shell scripts to run unattended and to produce useful output on their functioning
• Confident using Linux command line and Bash scripting and the use of cron and at to schedule task.
• Experience developing shell scripts to automate tasks, gather information and produce meaningful output.
• Practical experience with Ansible automation.
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting live Linux-based applications and infrastructure.
• Good understanding of Linux security, administration, and best practice.
• MySQL database administration and SQL querying, including performance optimisation.
• Database administration (MySQL) and SQL development (writing ad-hoc queries, optimisation of queries.
• Conformable with cloud environments (Azure, AWS,) and cloud automation (Terraform, Ansible,)
• Experience working in a service support environment, balancing BAU responsibilities with project work.
• Understanding of Linux security mechanisms and best practice

Senior Linux Systems Administrator-LAMP- Desirable Experience

• Higher Education experience or working with learning management systems, Moodle/Mahara/VLEs
• Git and version control. Prometheus, Grafana or other infrastructure monitoring tools. Networking, VPNs and firewall configuration.
• Developing dynamic (PHP/MySQL) web applications
• Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, Azure DevOps (ADO).
• Terraform and infrastructure as code.
• Jenkins and automated deployment processes.
• Red Hat Linux administration and VMware virtualisation.

The is fully remote and is outside of IR35-£450-£500pday. 3 months initially
