Job description
- We are seeking an experienced Technical Architect/Solution Architect to support the design and delivery of scalable, secure and reusable digital services within a large-scale public sector environment.
- The successful candidate will provide technical architectural guidance across common digital components, application-native user journeys and digital credential solutions, ensuring that proposed architectures align with established enterprise architecture principles, technical standards and governance requirements.
- Working closely with engineering teams, delivery leads and the wider architecture community, you will help shape technical solutions, advise on DevOps best practices and support the successful implementation of cloud-based services across AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- This opportunity would particularly suit an architect with experience operating within complex, multi-department environments, ideally within Central Government or similarly large-scale organisations., * Provide technical architectural advice and guidance for the design and implementation of common digital components supporting app-native journeys and digital credentials.
- Define and review solution architectures, ensuring they are scalable, secure, maintainable and aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Support delivery teams in progressing proposed solutions through technical governance and design assurance forums, including Detailed Design Authority (DDA) processes.
- Advise engineering teams on DevOps tooling, CI/CD practices, automation and modern software delivery approaches.
- Work collaboratively with engineers to review technical implementations and ensure solutions align with agreed architectural designs and best practices.
- Provide architectural guidance across multiple cloud platforms and technology stacks, including AWS, Microsoft Azure and GCP.
- Produce and maintain architectural documentation and supporting artefacts, including High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), technical specifications and technology stack recommendations.
- Ensure architectural decisions comply with established strategic, enterprise and security architecture standards.
- Identify technical dependencies, architectural risks and potential integration challenges, recommending appropriate solutions and mitigations.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, solution architects and other technical stakeholders to review architectural decisions and address exceptions to existing standards.
- Support teams in assessing where existing architectural constraints may need to be challenged or adapted, engaging with the wider architecture community to obtain appropriate agreement and approval.
- Promote the adoption of reusable components, consistent architectural patterns and engineering best practices across multiple delivery teams and departments.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Technical Architect, Solution Architect or similar within complex digital transformation or software engineering environments.
- Strong experience designing and advising on scalable, secure and resilient technical architectures.
- Practical knowledge of cloud technologies, including AWS, Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with the ability to work across different technology stacks.
- Experience providing architectural guidance to multidisciplinary engineering and delivery teams.
- Strong understanding of modern DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and associated tooling.
- Experience producing architectural documentation, including HLDs, LLDs, solution designs and technical architecture artefacts.
- Experience navigating technical governance, design assurance and architectural approval processes.
- Ability to work within established strategic and enterprise architecture frameworks, standards and constraints.
- Experience designing or supporting reusable digital components, shared services and complex system integrations.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, cloud-native technologies and modern application development practices.
- Experience operating within large-scale, complex organisations involving multiple teams, stakeholders and technical dependencies.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, delivery teams and the wider architecture community.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
