Senior Software Engineer

We are partnered with a fast-growing well-funded HealthTech startup (Series B) that combines AI and clinical expertise to help health insurers catch incorrect charges, cut unnecessary payments, and process claims faster. Billions are lost every year to improper payments and admin waste in US healthcare, and our client is already saving health plans significant money in medical costs. The team is mission-driven, with a flat structure and direct access to leadership., We are hiring at both the Sr. and Staff level to build and scale the backend systems behind the client’s GenAI-powered claim review platform. Sr. engineers will own complex backend systems and help raise the bar on the team. Staff engineers will set architectural direction across teams and act as a force multiplier for the engineering org. The team works in Python or TypeScript, but strong backend fundamentals matter more than any specific language.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, and own data-intensive backend systems and large-scale APIs in production
• Shape technical direction and coding/design standards (org-wide at the Staff level)
• Use and champion AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code), and at Staff level drive adoption and measure productivity gains
• Mentor other engineers and share best practices
• Partner with product, data, DevOps, AI, and business teams to scope and deliver solutions
• Own testing strategy, observability, and infrastructure decisions, including build-vs-buy calls at the Staff level

• Senior: 5+ years of software engineering experience owning complex backend projects
• Staff: 10+ years, with a track record of leading high-impact backend projects across teams and mentoring Sr. engineers
• Startup experience, ideally combined with time at an established tech company
• Large-scale API development and backend data processing xrbllit experience
• Hands-on work with relational databases and data model design
• Strong system design and cloud experience (AWS preferred), including CI/CD, Docker, and K8s
• Using AI coding assistants to improve your own and your team’s productivity
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Python or Typescript preferred, though we are flexible

Nice to have

• Healthcare SaaS experience, especially medical billing, claims, or clinical workflows
• Shipping user-facing AI products or deploying AI/ML models
• GraphQL, Postgres, Datadog
• Vector databases, Airflow/Dagster, message queues (SQS, Kinesis, Kafka)
• Building SDKs or libraries, open source contributions
