Job description

As a Transmission System Operator Sr, you will join a highly skilled team responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of our transmission grid. As a Transmission System Operator Sr, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining the reliability and stability of the LCRA transmission grid! From real-time system operation and control to emergency restoration, your decisions directly impact public safety, economic continuity, and grid resilience!

Work Environment & Expectations - This is a 24/7 operation and includes rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. It is primarily control room based, sedentary work with frequent finger/hand manipulation due to computer keyboard and mouse use with occasional field training. It is a highly demanding, high responsibility role that requires sustained attention and quick response time. How You’ll Contribute:

  • Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate real-time operation and control of the LCRA transmission grid and ensure electric transmission system meets demand while maintaining system parameters such as frequency, line flows, and transmission-level voltage within prescribed limits.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience, providing mentorship and direction as needed.
  • Write, Approve, Perform and coordinate switching of LCRA TSC, customer, and leased transmission lines, along with other utilities ensuring safe and efficient power restoration.
  • Restore service through SCADA and dispatch of field personnel, minimizing customer outage time and restoring system integrity.
  • Ensure timely communications on all transmission events to LCRA System Operations management, LCRA Customers, and ERCOT.
  • Review written logs pertaining to daily events to ensure accurate documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor weather conditions to ensure system operations readiness during adverse weather conditions.

Requirements

Do you have experience in High-voltage electrical systems?, * Seven or more years of experience in real-time operation and/or field operations and/or control of electric transmission and/or distribution systems, transmission equipment field operations, power plant operations or relevant experience.

  • A degree(s) in electrical engineering technology, electrical technology, electronics, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
  • Fluent in the English language
  • NERC System Operator Certification or equivalent

How You’ll Stand Out:

  • Commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous learning. Strong understanding of transmission systems, electrical fundamentals, and grid operations.
  • Ability to analyze complex, fast-moving situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Skilled in interpreting one-line diagrams, system data, and operating procedures.
  • Effective communicator who can coordinate clearly across teams and external partners.
  • Working knowledge of EMS/SCADA systems and real-time grid monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT protocols and NERC reliability standards including ERCOT Energy Emergency Alerts (EEA).
  • Ability to work and stay attentive throughout a twelve-hour shift on weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours at a sit/stand workstation. Work involves frequent finger/hand manipulation in using a keyboard and mouse
