Job description
Our client is seeking a Groundwater Treatment System Operator to support the operation and maintenance of a groundwater extraction and treatment system (GWETS) and associated landfill remediation systems at a complex Superfund remediation site in Sidney, NY. The role involves daily system operations, environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, landfill inspections, and site maintenance activities., Groundwater Extraction System Operations
- Operate and monitor:
- Collection trench and associated pumps
- Recovery wells
- Pumping systems and flow controls
- Assess and adjust system setpoints to optimize performance.
Groundwater Treatment Plant Operations
- Operate and maintain:
- Chemical precipitation and clarification systems
- Air stripping systems for VOC removal
- Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) treatment units
- Filtration and solids handling systems
System Monitoring & Maintenance
- Perform routine inspections and monitoring.
- Execute startup and shutdown procedures.
- Troubleshoot pumps, instrumentation, and treatment equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance activities.
Environmental Compliance & Sampling
- Conduct routine compliance monitoring and sampling.
- Maintain accurate field documentation, including:
- Logbooks
- Inspection forms
- Sampling records
- Support quarterly and annual regulatory reporting requirements.
Landfill Remediation Support
- Conduct landfill inspections and maintenance activities:
- Cap condition assessments
- Erosion and settlement monitoring
- Stormwater control inspections
- Monitoring wells and gas vent inspections
- Site infrastructure maintenance
Waste Management
- Support treatment waste handling and disposal activities.
Health, Safety & Site Maintenance
- Follow all health and safety requirements, including:
- HAZWOPER protocols
- Confined space entry procedures
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASP)
- Perform general site maintenance, including:
- Mowing
- Snow removal
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driverās License license?, Do you have a valid Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Certification certification?, Do you have experience in Word embeddings?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 5+ years of experience in water/wastewater or groundwater treatment systems; OR
- Associate Degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience operating physical and chemical treatment systems.
- Knowledge of:
- Air stripping
- Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) systems
- Clarification processes
- Chemical dosing systems
- Experience with environmental sampling and groundwater monitoring.
- Understanding of SPDES/NPDES permit compliance and discharge monitoring requirements.
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with SCADA or automated control systems.
- Valid driverās license.
- Basic computer proficiency in:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or previous 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
