Job description

The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as a statistical programming expert within the CSPCC at Perry Point, MD, and to perform the statistical analysis of data for assigned multi-site clinical trials and/or epidemiologic studies., · Serve as a statistical programming expert in the planning of multiple assigned studies and work with the study planning and executive committees which include inter-agency and intra-agency officials, and non-government scientists.

· Collaborate with the study biostatistician and the database management staff in the planning, design and review of the database management system for each assigned study.

· Assist the study team in the development, selection, and/or review of study data collection instruments to ensure all data needed for study endpoints is captured.

· Assist the biostatistician in the planning of statistical analyses and study data reports.

· Identify and apply appropriate statistical analysis techniques and procedures for analyzing study data.

· Design, write, test and run SAS programs, and, where appropriate, use other commercial statistical software packages to generate tables, listings and figures of study results for various types of study reports over the lifetime of each assigned study.

· Review output of statistical programs to check for completeness and accuracy of data and study results following program validation requirements. Identify data entry issues and collaborate with data management staff to help rectify these issues whenever possible.

· Document procedures for each statistical programming assignment completed following program documentation requirements.

· Assist the biostatistician in the preparation of study interim and final reports, as well as preparing results for publication in scientific journals.

· Perform other minor duties as assigned as they relate directly to the position and its assigned duties.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS

· Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S.

· Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting.

· Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree is preferred*

· Minimum of 1 year of experience in statistics is desirable*

*Additional education may be substituted for required experience, and additional related experience may be substituted for required education

· Proficiency in SAS programming; experience with other statistical software is a plus.

· Strong understanding of clinical trial design and statistical principles.

· Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams., * Proficiency in SAS programming

SUPERVISION

Position reports directly to the Chief of Statistical Programming of the CSPCC in Perry Point, Maryland. In the absence of the Chief of Statistical Programming of the VA CSPCC-PP, the position reports to the Deputy Director of the CSPCC-PP.

The Baltimore Research and Educational Foundation (BREF) is a non-profit corporation that supports the mission of the Veterans Affairs Maryland Healthcare System (VAMHCS) by administrating and facilitating biomedical research and education endeavors, particularly those funded by non-VA sponsors. In this capacity, BREF employs research staff and provides other services for conducting clinical research at the Cooperative Studies Program Coordinating Center (CSPCC) in Perry Point, Maryland (CSPCC-PP). The CSPCC-PP executes multicenter clinical trials and other types of research under the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Cooperative Studies Program, as well as trials and research done under agreements with non-VA (external) funders.
