Job description

The Surface Radars and Sensors (SR&S) Center in Huntsville AL, is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to support Radar test activities, including radar performance analysis, test planning, and post-mission activities. In this role, you will take on engineering responsibilities such as planning and executing radar test events, conducting in-depth radar data analyses, and developing and implementing verification strategies for advanced radar capabilities and software builds across HWIL, SIL, and field environments. You will leverage your radar-domain expertise to analyze system behavior, evaluate algorithm and software performance, and diagnose the root causes of anomalies. Your tasks will include creating test objectives, specifying data collection requirements, analyzing mission and sensor data to evaluate performance in detection, tracking, discrimination, and engagement, and sharing results with multidisciplinary engineering teams. You will collaborate with systems, software, and algorithm engineers while also working independently to support requirements validation, technical reviews, and readiness for test events. This position may require occasional travel to Raytheon and government sites to support integration efforts, test events, and technical discussions.

What You Will Do

  • Develop, execute, and analyze modeling and simulation scenarios to predict radar performance, validate algorithm updates, and compare modeled results to test data.

  • Provide real-time and near-real-time field analysis during test events, including sensor behavior validation and system performance assessments.

  • Collaborate with cross-discipline engineers, program leadership, and government stakeholders to define analysis objectives, prioritize data sets, and communicate findings effectively.

  • Create and present detailed analysis reports, performance assessments, test summaries, and presentation materials for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support technical reviews, including peer reviews, gate reviews, verification events, and test readiness reviews, ensuring alignment with program goals.

  • Participate in test planning by defining data collection requirements, preparing analysis tools and scripts, and ensuring readiness with integration and test teams.

  • Conduct systems validation, algorithm performance assessments, data analysis, and test event reconstruction for complex digital radar systems.

  • Ensure test activities, including data capture, configuration tracking, and validation procedures, meet engineering processes, quality standards, and government requirements.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience with radar fundamentals, including waveforms, beamforming, detection, and/or signal processing.

  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or other programing languages.

  • Experience with system integration, verification, validation and/or testing.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience supporting radar test planning, execution, or post test data analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience in test, integration, or verification and validation of Missile Defense System, Army, and/or Navy sensors.

  • Experience working within multidisciplinary systems engineering teams.

  • Experience interfacing with internal or external customers, including providing technical solutions to user requirements, analyzing radar data, and generating and maintaining technical documentation and work instructions.

  • Experience supporting development of verification/validation strategies for advanced radar capabilities and software builds, including building and executing simulated scenarios to predict sensor performance.

Benefits & conditions

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
