Job description
Are you a Milwaukee -based technician who loves solving complex hands-on problems and traveling? Mad Dash is seeking a dedicated Field Engineering Technician to install, commission, and troubleshoot commercial energy monitoring systems (electricity, gas, and water).
In this role, you will act as the face of our company on-site, bridging the gap between electrical hardware, smart HVAC controls, and network communications. This position combines local field assignments in the Milwaukee/Chicago metro area with frequent overnight travel (75% per month) across the region. We need a dedicated professional capable of working safely in diverse environments while providing expert electrical support across multiple industries., Technical Installation & Commissioning
- Electrical & Conduit Work: Bend conduit and install relays, contactors, and circuit breakers up to 480V. Ensure all work complies with NEC standards.
- Energy Hardware: Install, program, and configure interval data recorders and power monitoring meters.
- Smart HVAC Controls: Install smart thermostats and troubleshoot commercial HVAC systems.
- Electro-Mechanical Systems: Service, diagnose, and maintain complex integration points between electrical hardware and mechanical components.
- Networking: Deploy cellular modems, hotspots, and configure Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity.
- Low Voltage: Run low-voltage wiring for Modbus, BACnet, and temperature sensors. Apply industry-standard installation methods for data, control, and sensor wiring.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnostic Work: Troubleshoot device failures, data gaps, communication dropouts, and hardware defects.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, control diagrams, and technical drawings to guide installation and repairs.
- System Testing: Perform formal commissioning and re-commissioning of all on-site equipment.
Operations & Client Relations
- Customer Service: Maintain a professional demeanor with property managers, contractors, and tenants.
- Reporting: Track site progress, log inventory parts, and report daily updates to operations support.
- Fleet Care: Safely operate and maintain your assigned company service vehicle.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Low-voltage electrical wiring?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Education: High School Diploma PLUS one of the following:
- Associate Degree
- Trade School Certificate / Diploma
- Completed Skilled Trades Apprenticeship
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of field experience working with electrical and mechanical systems.
- Electrical Background: Proven experience as a commercial electrician or HVAC with deep knowledge of high voltage (HV up to 480V) and low voltage (LV) systems.
- Skills: Hands-on experience with residential or commercial HVAC units and low-voltage cabling.
Certifications & Safety
- Safety Certification: OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is highly preferred.
- Compliance: Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and OSHA safety standards.
- Preferred: NFPA 70E training and familiarity with Modbus/BACnet protocols.
Travel & Physical Demands
- Travel: Ability to travel overnight up to 75% of the month by air and car from the Milwaukee/Chicago hub.
- Physical: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work comfortably in tight spaces (roofs, attics, basements, electrical rooms).
- Schedule: Flexibility to work changing schedules, including occasional nights or weekends.
- Driving: Valid driver’s license with a clean record that meets company auto safety standards.
