Sr. Systems Engineer

This is a full-time, on-site position for an IT Engineer at Skyward Technical Solutions, located in Laguna Niguel, CA. The IT Engineer position is a project execution role. The ideal candidate will execute infrastructure projects and support our clients through migrations, deployments, and upgrades. This position will manage and maintain IT systems, perform troubleshooting, provide technical support, and ensure network security. Additional responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day system operations, configuring and maintaining networks, and resolving technical issues to ensure optimal system performance.

What you’ll do

• Execute infrastructure migrations including VMware to Hyper-V conversions
• Perform server installations, upgrades, and hardware refreshes
• Handle network deployments - switches, firewalls, VLANs, VPN configurations
• Plan and execute Microsoft 365 migrations - on-premises Exchange to Exchange Online, Google Workspace to M365, and tenant-to-tenant migrations
• Configure and deploy firewalls, managed switches, and wireless access points at client sites
• Design and implement network infrastructure - VLANs, VPNs, SSIDs, and firewall policy
• Support Azure migrations and hybrid environment configurations
• Document all project work thoroughly in our PSA and project tracking tools
• Serve as a technical escalation point for the help desk team
• Participate in after-hours maintenance windows for project cutover work
• Deploy and configure Microsoft 365 - Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune

Do you have experience in Server virtualization?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * 3-5 years of hands-on IT experience, preferably in an MSP environment

• Hands-on M365 migration experience - on-prem to cloud, Google to M365, or tenant-to-tenant
• VMware to Hyper-V migration experience - you’ve executed this, not just studied it
• Solid Microsoft 365 and Windows Server administration skills
• Comfortable with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
• Strong networking skills - hands-on experience deploying and configuring firewalls, managed switches, and wireless access points in a business environment
• Familiar with common networking platforms - FortiGate, SonicWall, Cisco Meraki, Ubiquiti, or similar
• Solid understanding of VLANs, routing, VPN, and wireless network design
• Experience with backup and DR platforms - Datto or similar preferred
• RMM experience - Datto RMM, NinjaOne, or similar
• Strong client-facing communication - you’ll interact directly with clients on project work
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent are highly desirable
• Candidates with hands-on experience implementing compliance frameworks - CMMC, NIST, HIPAA, or FTC Safeguards - will be given strong preference., * Bachelor’s (Preferred), * Systems engineering: 4 years (Preferred)
