Job description

Recent hands-on Workday Payroll experience is required for consideration. Candidates without Workday Payroll experience will not be considered. LaSalle Network is partnering with a leading investment management firm to identify a Lead Workday Payroll Consultant. This individual will serve as the senior resource within the payroll function, overseeing payroll operations, payroll tax compliance and payroll process improvements. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who has operated in a lead, supervisory or payroll management capacity and possesses extensive hands-on Workday Payroll experience.

The Lead Workday Payroll Consultant will serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related escalations, payroll tax matters, compliance initiatives and process optimization efforts while partnering closely with HR, Finance and Accounting leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state employee population, ensuring timely, accurate and compliant payroll execution
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex payroll issues, payroll tax inquiries and compliance matters
  • Review and approve payroll transactions, including new hires, terminations, bonuses, commissions, equity payments, garnishments and benefit deductions
  • Manage payroll tax compliance activities, including federal, state and local tax reporting requirements
  • Research and resolve payroll tax notices, audits, agency correspondence and filing discrepancies
  • Partner with third-party payroll tax providers and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate tax filings and remittances
  • Oversee quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, including reconciliations, tax reporting and W-2 processing
  • Utilize Workday Payroll to process payroll, maintain employee records and generate reporting
  • Conduct payroll audits, reconciliations and control reviews to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance
  • Provide leadership, mentorship and guidance to payroll team members
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation and Workday optimization
  • Support payroll-related projects, implementations and system enhancements

Requirements

  • Recent hands-on Workday Payroll experience is required
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including lead, supervisory or payroll management experience
  • Strong expertise in multi-state payroll tax compliance, filings and reporting
  • Experience managing payroll tax notices, audits, reconciliations and agency inquiries
  • Proven experience reviewing payroll work and serving as a senior payroll resource
  • Experience processing payroll for large employee populations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs and data analysis
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, regulations and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
