Job description
Target Audience: Private Investigators, Small Law Firms and Legal Investigators, Small Special Investigative Units (Insurance), Risk Management ands HR for C-Suite Hires.
2nd Project: Small Law Enforcement Agencies (Police, Sheriff’s Depts. with small budgets that do not allow for enterprise tools)
The Mission
CaseLight is a field-first investigative case management tool built around a unified case object, automatic timeline generation, and evidence-grade metadata preservation.
Enterprise investigative software is heavily cost-prohibitive, forcing single-operator and small firms to cobble together 6-8 disparate tools. CaseLight replaces this fragmented workflow with an affordable, field-ready solution. A follow-on version will serve small law enforcement agencies locked out of enterprise budgets, representing a massive secondary scaling opportunity.
About the Founder
I am a retired Federal Law Enforcement Agent who previously ran daily operations and the entire intelligence cycle for a 43-person intelligence unit. I am also a currently licensed Private Investigator in Washington State. I know this workflow cold, I know the exact pain points of the market, and I have a clear, realistic marketing plan ready to launch.
The Technical Challenge (Not a CRUD Dashboard)
This is a small, tightly scoped MVP that requires deep engineering, not just UI assembly. If you have built sync engines, offline-first apps, or distributed state systems, you will feel right at home.
Core focus areas include:
-
Offline-First Architecture: Local persistence with seamless, resilient background synchronization.
-
Deterministic Conflict Resolution: Robust data merging between mobile and desktop clients over intermittent networks.
-
Unified Case Object: Merging notes, media, events, and structured/unstructured inputs into a single, automated timeline.
-
Evidence Integrity: Hashed attachments (SHA-256) preserving critical metadata (EXIF, timestamps, chain of custody).
-
Security: Strict end-to-end encryption (TLS 1.2+) and evidence-safe export formats (PDF, ZIP, metadata bundles).
Who You Are
-
An independent solo developer or a very small, tightly knit engineering team.
-
Experienced in building local DB + cloud merge systems, field data collection tools, or distributed states.
-
Highly communicative, fast-moving, and engaged.
-
Not for an agency, no-code/low-code builder, or someone looking to learn basic full-stack development on the job.
