A reputable self-perform heavy civil contractor is expanding in Virginia and is seeking a Project Manager to oversee substantial roadway, highway, and bridge projects. The projects are challenging, and this role offers significant project ownership.
You will be responsible for leading heavy highway, road, and bridge projects from inception to completion, collaborating with field leadership, project engineers, owners, agencies, subcontractors, and vendors. This company emphasizes hands-on work such as grading, drainage, utilities, storm drain, erosion control, and DOT roadway work. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will work within a cohesive team dedicated to delivering quality results and seeking a dynamic PM to join their team., The Project Manager will oversee project management activities from planning to completion, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.
- Manage heavy highway, road, bridge, and civil infrastructure projects from planning to completion
- Take ownership of schedule, budget, cost control, forecasting, change orders, documentation, and closeout
- Protect projected margins by submitting accurate cost and income projections and addressing variances promptly
- Act as the primary project contact for owners, agencies, subcontractors, and vendors
- Provide leadership to field supervision and project engineering teams, defining clear roles and responsibilities
- Identify project risks early and implement solutions proactively
- Manage contract changes, claims, documentation, and communication with owners to secure the company’s position
- Ensure quality control by reviewing designs against engineering principles, company standards, and contract requirements
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and production efficiency across the project
- Issue subcontracts and purchase orders and oversee subcontractor performance
- Conduct weekly project meetings, review schedule and cost status, and report project performance to leadership accurately
- Submit precise and timely payment requisitions and escalate issues when necessary

Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Working on construction projects in a civil infrastructure role?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Minimum 5-10 years of experience managing heavy/highway, road, or bridge civil construction projects
- Proven track record overseeing medium-to-large heavy civil projects as a Project Manager
- Strong background in DOT / VDOT, roadway, bridge, grading, drainage, paving, or utility projects
- Proficient in cost control, scheduling, contracts, and change orders
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders including owners, agencies, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Experience with HeavyJob, Bluebeam, and Primavera P6 is a plus
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
