Job description

The Sr. Database Administrator (DBA) is a high-level technical expert responsible for the management, performance, and security of a complex multi-platform database environment. This role requires deep expertise in MS SQL Server, specifically focusing on modernizing operations through CI/CD automation. A primary immediate focus for this role is executing the migration and optimization of MS SQL Server 2019 to 2022 environments, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime across the enterprise., * Database Migration & Upgrades: Lead the technical execution of MS SQL Server upgrades from 2019 to 2022, including pre-migration compatibility testing and post-migration performance benchmarking.

  • System Administration: Execute the design, testing, and maintenance of database systems across various technologies (Oracle, Sybase IQ/ASE, MySQL, and SQL Server), ensuring 99.9% uptime.
  • Performance & Reliability: Monitor database performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and coordinate defect resolution to maintain high availability and reliability across various technologies including Oracle, Sybase IQ/ASE, MySQL, and SQL Server.
  • Standards & Governance: Establish and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures to ensure data integrity and security across all database environments.
  • Automation Engineering: Develop and implement task automation strategies using CI/CD pipelines to streamline patching, provisioning, and routine DBA tasks.
  • High Availability (HA): Manage and enhance SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, troubleshooting complex synchronization and listener issues.
  • Disaster Recovery: Define and execute robust backup and recovery protocols, ensuring all systems meet Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
  • Technical Collaboration: Partner with application teams to translate business requirements into scalable database solutions, serving as the technical SME for SQL optimization.
  • Agile Execution: Actively participate in the Agile lifecycle, utilizing Jira (Kanban and Scrum) to track project milestones and sprint-based tasks.

Requirements

Do you have experience in System tuning?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related discipline.

  • MS SQL Expert: 5+ years of advanced experience with MS SQL Server 2019/2022. Must have proven experience with version migrations, Always On Availability Groups, and performance tuning.
  • DevOps/Automation: 3+ years of experience developing automation using CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, or Azure DevOps) for database tasks.
  • Agile: 2+ years of experience working in an Agile environment with proficiency in Jira.
  • Optimization: Expert-level ability to tune SQL statements, optimize memory grant feedback, and configure complex database parameters for peak performance.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with AWS RDS or other cloud database services.
  • Experience with SQL Server 2022 specific features (e.g., PSP optimization, Managed Instance link).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for advanced automation.
  • Experience with database monitoring tools such as SolarWinds or Redgate., * Bachelor’s (Preferred)
