Job description
Gemini Energy is seeking a Director of Systems Engineering to own the technical architecture and integration of our energy server platform solution for AI data center power. This is a hands-on leadership role for an engineer who thinks at the system level, is fluent in power electronics and electrical integration, and can set design direction across mechanical, electrochemical, controls, and balance-of-plant teams. You will be the technical center of gravity responsible for delivering a manufacturable, grid-interconnected, bankable product.
What You’ll Do
- Own the end-to-end system architecture of the energy server, defining interfaces, requirements flow-down, and design budgets (power, thermal, water, mass, cost) across all subsystems.
- Set design direction and arbitrate trade-offs for mechanical, electrical, electrochemical, balance-of-plant, and controls groups; resolve cross-disciplinary conflicts at the system boundary.
- Lead electrical and power conversion architecture: DC/DC and inverter topology, stack-to-bus integration, protection, and grid interconnection (UL 1741-SB, IEEE 1547-2018).
- Drive N+1 modular architecture to achieve five-nines array-level reliability.
- Stay hands-on: build models, run calculations, review designs in detail, and personally close technical gaps rather than only directing.
- Define and execute the technical roadmap toward a certified, field-deployable, bankable commercial product, including independent engineer validation (Black & Veatch, DNV, Sargent & Lundy).
- Drive certification readiness: ANSI/CSA FC 1, NFPA 2/853, NEC 692, ASME, CARB DG-2007.
- Partner with the CTO and process engineering on fuel processing, water balance, and thermal integration for the full power island.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Thermal control?, * 15+ years of systems or electrical engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex electromechanical or power-generation products through to commercialization.
- Deep electrical/power electronics expertise (power conversion, grid-tie inverters, protection, interconnection standards) combined with genuine system-level fluency across thermal, fluids, and controls.
- Track record defining design direction for multidisciplinary technical teams and holding system-level architecture authority.
- Experience taking hardware to certified, field-deployable, bankable product at scale.
- Hands-on engineer who still does the math and reviews the drawings - comfortable leading without losing technical depth.
Preferred
- Fuel cell, electrolyzer, power electronics, or distributed generation experience.
- Familiarity with data center power requirements and behind-the-meter generation.
- Exposure to reliability engineering, IE validation, and reinsurance/bankability processes.
- BSEE/MSEE or equivalent; advanced degree a plus.
