Job description
The consultant will work closely with a junior developer and project stakeholders to ensure applications are designed and developed using industry best practices for scalability, security, compliance, interoperability, and maintainability.
The ideal candidate has experience with healthcare software development, HIPAA compliance, HL7/FHIR integrations, API architecture, cloud technologies, and modern web application development.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership
- Review software architecture and application design decisions.
- Recommend scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions.
- Evaluate technology stacks and implementation approaches.
- Identify technical risks and provide mitigation strategies.
- Assist with long-term product and platform planning.
Code Review & Quality Assurance
- Conduct regular code reviews and provide actionable feedback.
- Review pull requests and development standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve performance, maintainability, and security.
- Assist in establishing software engineering best practices.
- Help reduce technical debt and improve code quality.
Mentorship & Developer Support
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.
- Assist with troubleshooting complex technical issues.
- Review development plans before implementation.
- Help developers improve software design and engineering practices.
- Participate in technical planning and design discussions.
Healthcare Technology Advisory
- Review healthcare workflows and system architecture.
- Advise on HIPAA-compliant application design.
- Review data privacy and security controls.
- Guide interoperability and healthcare data exchange initiatives.
- Assist with healthcare software integration strategies.
API & Integration Oversight
- Review RESTful API architecture and implementation.
- Evaluate authentication and authorization models.

- Ensure secure and scalable API design practices.
AI & Automation Advisory
- Advise on AI-enabled healthcare workflows and automation opportunities.
- Evaluate AI integration strategies for healthcare applications.
- Review AI-related security, privacy, and compliance considerations.
- Assist with implementation of AI-powered document processing, workflow automation, and intelligent search capabilities.

Requirements
Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 8 years of professional software development experience.
- Minimum 5 years of healthcare software development experience.
- Proven experience designing and supporting enterprise-scale healthcare applications.
- Experience mentoring developers and conducting code reviews.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with distributed or remote development teams.
Required Healthcare Experience
Candidates must have hands-on experience with one or more of the following:
- Healthcare software applications
- Pharmacy management systems
- Specialty pharmacy platforms
- Prior Authorization (PA) systems
- Electronic Health Records (EHR/EMR)
- Patient management platforms

You have experience architecting and reviewing healthcare applications, mentoring developers, and ensuring solutions meet security, compliance, interoperability, and scalability requirements.
You are comfortable providing strategic guidance while also reviewing implementation details and helping developers solve complex technical challenges., * Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS)

Healthcare software development experience is required. Applicants without direct healthcare technology experience will not be considered.
