Job description

We are seeking a highly capable multi-discipline engineer who can design, build, integrate, and support advanced multi-gas detection systems paired with secure communications platforms used in remote, high-risk, and mission-critical environments.

This role bridges hardware, embedded firmware, and software development with real-world field deployment. You will work on ruggedized systems that combine environmental sensing, edge processing, and secure communications via satellite and networks supporting commercial, industrial applications-

This is not a siloed engineering role. You will own systems end-to-end-from sourcing components to field troubleshooting in harsh environments.

Key ResponsibilitiesSystems Design & Integration

  • Design and develop multi-gas detection systems (CO, H S, CH , O , VOCs, etc.)
  • Integrate sensor arrays, microcontrollers, embedded processors, and rugged enclosures
  • Develop system architectures that combine hardware, firmware, software and communications layers
  • Ensure EMI/RFI resilience for harsh industrial and tactical environments

Firmware & Embedded Development

  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware (C/C++, RTOS environments preferred)
  • Implement sensor calibration, signal processing, and fault detection algorithms
  • Optimize low-power and edge-processing performance
  • Develop OTA update mechanisms and device lifecycle management tools

Software Development

  • Build supporting software tools for configuration, monitoring, and diagnostics
  • Develop APIs and telemetry systems for remote device management
  • Create dashboards or lightweight interfaces for field and operations teams

Communications Systems Integration

  • Integrate SATCOM and secure field communications systems for remote telemetry and command/control
  • Develop and troubleshoot connectivity between edge devices and cloud/relay systems
  • Support integration with tactical communication networks and mobile command systems
  • Ensure reliable data transmission in low-bandwidth or degraded environments

Hardware Engineering & Prototyping

  • Source components (sensors, RF modules, processors, power systems)
  • Build and test prototypes from concept to field-ready systems
  • Perform PCB review, layout collaboration, and hardware debugging
  • Work with vendors for custom enclosures and ruggedization requirements

Field Support & Troubleshooting

  • Support deployment in oilfield, industrial, and remote operations environments
  • Diagnose hardware/software failures in real-time field conditions
  • Train operators and technicians on system use and maintenance
  • Provide rapid engineering response for mission-critical system issues

Requirements

Do you have experience in SoC?, * 5+ years experience in embedded systems, hardware engineering, or full-stack device development

  • Strong proficiency in embedded systems
  • Experience with sensor integration and analog/digital signal processing
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, or equivalent)
  • Experience with wireless communications (RF, LTE, satellite, mesh networks, or similar)
  • Proven ability to debug hardware and firmware in real-world environments
  • Strong understanding of power systems, low-power design, and rugged electronics
  • Ability to travel for field deployments as needed
  • Experience with SATCOM systems or remote telemetry over satellite networks
  • Background in defense, oil & gas, mining, or industrial safety systems
  • Knowledge of hazardous gas detection standards and calibration methods
  • Experience integrating secure communications in mission-critical environments
  • Exposure to SOCOM-style operational requirements or tactical field systems
  • Linux embedded systems development
  • Cloud IoT platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT, etc.)
  • Cybersecurity fundamentals for embedded devices

Personality & Work Style Fit

  • You thrive in environments where no two problems are the same
  • You are equally comfortable writing firmware and physically troubleshooting hardware in the field
  • You enjoy owning systems end-to-end-not just a small piece
  • You stay calm when systems fail in real-world, high-pressure environments
  • You prefer building things that actually go into the field and get used

Benefits & conditions

$15,600.55 - $106,701.73 a year - Full-time, Contract, Pulled from the full job description

  • Employee stock purchase plan
  • Stock options, * Opportunity to build cutting-edge sensing + communications platforms
  • Field exposure and real-world deployment experience
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and knowledge level

Pay: $15,600.55 - $106,701.73 per year
