Piping Systems Technical Writer / Industrial Utility Systems Specialist

Triad Engineering Solutions is seeking a Piping Systems Technical Writer / Industrial Systems Specialist to support the development of operating procedures for major utility systems at a large industrial facility in the Newport News, Virginia area.

This position involves gathering technical information about existing systems and converting that information into clear, well-organized operating procedures. The successful candidate will work closely with facility operators, engineers, and maintenance personnel to understand how systems function and document that information in a structured format.

Candidates may come from either a technical writing background with experience in industrial systems or from a hands-on mechanical background such as plant operations, maintenance, or marine mechanical work., * Meet with facility engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel to understand the configuration and operation of various systems

• Review existing documentation including P&IDs, equipment manuals, drawings, and other technical materials
• Conduct field walkthroughs of piping systems and equipment within an industrial facility
• Document system configuration and operational practices
• Develop operating procedures in Microsoft Word following established formats
• Coordinate with client personnel during procedure reviews and incorporate revisions as required

Systems covered may include:

• Steam and condensate systems
• Industrial water distribution systems
• Compressed air systems
• Boilers and boiler support equipment
• Pumps and pump systems
• Valves and mechanical equipment associated with facility utilities

Do you have experience in Pipe blueprint interpretation?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Approximately 5+ years of experience working with industrial piping systems or mechanical equipment

• Ability to read and interpret piping drawings or P&IDs
• Comfortable working in an industrial facility environment
• Ability to communicate with operators, engineers, and maintenance personnel
• Strong written communication skills
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and coordinate with team members
• Ability to pass a background check

Candidates may come from a variety of technical backgrounds, including:

• Technical writers with industrial or mechanical systems experience
• Plant operators or utility system operators
• Maintenance technicians or supervisors
• Marine or shipyard mechanical personnel
• Boiler operators
• Mechanical technicians familiar with pumps and piping systems
• Industrial professionals interested in transitioning into technical documentation work

Previous technical writing experience is helpful but not required if the candidate has strong mechanical knowledge and communication skills., * Do you have any technical writing experience?

Salary Range

$65,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
