Computer Information Technology Instructor

The Computer Information Technology (CIT) Instructor provides classroom, lab, hybrid, and online instruction primarily to high school students enrolled in Career and College Promise (CCP), dual-enrollment, and early college programs through the North Carolina Community College System. The CIT Instructor serves as a shared instructor between the community college and the high school. In this role, the instructor may teach courses on the community college campus in accordance with the college’s approved curriculum, instructional standards, and academic policies. The instructor may also teach courses on the high school campus, where instruction follows K-12 curriculum requirements, state standards, and district policies. This shared position allows students to access both secondary and postsecondary educational opportunities while ensuring that instruction meets the requirements of the respective institution.

The instructor focuses on teaching foundational and advanced information technology courses that prepare high school students for college pathways, industry certifications, and entry-level IT careers. The position requires the ability to engage younger learners while maintaining college-level academic standards and fostering student success in a supportive learning environment. Instruction will focus on CIS 110 and high school computer classes.

The instructor works collaboratively with local high schools, college faculty, counselors, and administrators to support dual-enrollment initiatives and workforce development goals., Faculty Essential Responsibilities: Instructional Duties:

• Initiating requests for necessary equipment and supplies, ensuring that resources are available and aligned with course needs.
• Attending graduation functions and ceremonies, representing the department and the college in a professional capacity.
• Fulfilling all contract provisions, including participating in required meetings and completing work assignments and responsibilities within the contract period.
• Maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times, serving as a representative of the college both on and off-campus.
• Assisting the Department Chair/Director with updating and refining the curriculum to ensure its relevance and alignment with academic and industry standards.
• Maintaining current course syllabi, ensuring that course content is accurately described and that learning outcomes and objectives are clearly communicated.
• Creating an effective and engaging learning environment that encourages student success, fosters engagement, and supports diverse learning styles.
• Being responsible for the content and delivery of all assigned courses, which may include face-to-face, online, hybrid, hyflex, and blended modalities.
• Following the course description set forth in the common course library to ensure consistency and alignment with program expectations.
• Implementing student-centered instructional strategies that are designed to assist all learners in meeting the course objectives, with a focus on promoting active learning and student success.
• Being familiar with academic support services and other student resources available at the college, and encourage students to utilize these resources to enhance their academic performance.
• Posting and maintaining required office hours, ensuring availability for student consultations, academic advising, and addressing student concerns.
• Participating in recruitment activities as assigned, helping to promote the department’s programs and engage prospective students.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records such as:
• Daily attendance
• Grades
• Veterans and financial aid attendance reports
• Other assigned instructional records
• Taking responsibility for the inventory and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies, ensuring that these resources are aligned with course content and institutional goals.
• Being knowledgeable about accreditation standards and providing data and evidence necessary for accreditation processes and program evaluations such as program learning outcomes, student learning outcomes, and general education outcomes.

Professional Development

• Continuously updating knowledge and skills in the respective teaching fields to remain current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. This includes attending relevant workshops, conferences, and pursuing ongoing educational opportunities.
• Assisting in the recruitment, orientation, registration, retention, academic advising, placement, and follow-up of students, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed academically and professionally.
• Continuously working to enhance personal teaching skills, incorporating the latest educational technologies and pedagogical strategies to improve student engagement, learning outcomes, and overall instructional effectiveness.
• Taking full responsibility for developing and implementing an effective professional development plan, ensuring that the plan aligns with both personal growth and departmental goals.

Other Duties:

• Attending all mandatory meetings, including those related to professional development, and participating in key campus events such as graduation, employee meetings, etc., demonstrating a commitment to the college community.
• Serving on college committees and attending meeting as assigned and/or requested, contributing to the governance and strategic initiatives of the college.
• Supporting, following, and enforcing all College policies and procedures, ensuring compliance within the department and promoting a culture of accountability.
• Performing other duties as assigned by the Department Chair/Director, Dean, or Vice President of Instruction and Student Services, assisting with tasks and projects that contribute to the success and goals of the department and college., * The job mainly involves teaching in classrooms and labs, which includes sitting at a computer, standing while lecturing, and moving around to assist students and troubleshoot in lab settings.
• Instructors regularly use computers for grading, lesson planning, and communication, and must be able to speak and hear effectively for instruction. They may also walk between classrooms, attend meetings, or proctor exams.
• Occasionally, the role involves light physical tasks such as setting up or adjusting classroom equipment, connecting devices, or moving small items (typically up to 10-15 pounds).
• Long periods of standing can occur during labs, but heavy lifting or strenuous physical activity is not required.
• Courses are taught predominantly to high school students enrolled in college-credit programs
• Daytime teaching schedule aligned with local high school calendars may be required
• Occasional evening or professional development activities may occur outside normal school hours

Do you have experience in Working with post-secondary students?, Do you have a Master’s degree?, * Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field

• OR a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer information technology concepts and applications
• Ability to effectively teach and mentor high school-aged students in a college-level environment
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Requirements:

• Community college or secondary education teaching experience
• Experience teaching dual-enrollment or Career and College Promise (CCP) students
• Online or hybrid teaching experience
• Industry certifications such as:
• CompTIA A+
• Network+
• Security+
• Cisco CCNA
• Microsoft certifications
• AWS or cloud certifications
• Experience with learning management systems and instructional technology
• Knowledge of student success strategies for first-generation and early college students
