AS400 Programmer

Our client in the Melville, NY area is seeking an experienced AS400 Programmer to support and enhance critical business applications within a complex IBM iSeries (AS/400) environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a developer who enjoys working with both legacy and modern technologies, combining RPG development expertise with Java integration and modernization initiatives., * Design, develop, test, and maintain business applications on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform

• Support development efforts utilizing RPG IV, RPGLE, free-form RPG, RPG III, CL, and CLLE
• Develop and maintain Java applications and integration components that connect legacy systems with modern technologies
• Create and support API integrations, web services, and data exchange processes
• Work with DB2/400 databases and support reporting and query activities
• Troubleshoot software issues and resolve production support requests
• Analyze existing applications and optimize code for performance, stability, and maintainability
• Collaborate with business users and stakeholders to gather requirements and develop technical solutions
• Support modernization efforts involving RESTful services, SOAP services, JSON, XML, and related technologies
• Maintain technical documentation and participate in code reviews and best practice initiatives
• Ensure compliance with company security, development, and documentation standards

Experience: 3-6 years of AS400 / RPG development experience required Skills: Java development experience required Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will be accepted, * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred

• Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
• 3-6 years of hands-on AS400 / IBM iSeries development experience required
• Strong experience with RPGLE, RPG IV, free-form RPG, RPG III, CL, and CLLE
• Experience working with DB2/400 databases
• Minimum of 1 year of professional Java development experience required
• Experience with object-oriented programming concepts and application integration
• Familiarity with JSON, XML, SOAP, RESTful APIs, and web services preferred
• Experience utilizing the Integrated File System (IFS) for data exchange activities preferred
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to understand and support complex legacy applications and undocumented code
