Job description
The Manager, Data Services, oversees the portfolio of work supporting the Company’s enterprise data platforms, including prioritization, delivery coordination, and oversight of supporting contractor and vendor resources. This role helps ensure the reliable delivery of data to Finance, Marketing, Growth, Operations, Revenue Cycle, People, Clinical teams, and Executive Leadership by managing the execution of work, supporting production data processes, and aligning work to business priorities. The Manager, Data Services will combine technical execution with team leadership and vendor oversight to maintain platform stability and ensure the most critical business needs are met efficiently. This role will also manage vendor relationships and optimize contractor spend by reducing inefficiencies and strategically determining what work should be performed internally versus externally. This role plays a critical role in improving operational discipline, reducing manual processes, and supporting the ongoing evolution of the Company’s data environment., Team and Vendor Relationship:
- Lead the day-to-day execution of the data services function, overseeing a mix of internal team members and external vendor partners.
- Manage vendor relationships, including prioritization of work, delivery expectations, performance management, and accountability.
- Provide ongoing coaching, direction, and feedback to team members and contractors to ensure high-quality delivery.
- Make informed decisions on how work is resourced (internal vs. vendor) to balance cost, speed, and quality
Platform Operations & Delivery
- Own the day-to-day and strategic operation of the Company’s enterprise data platforms, including modern cloud systems and legacy data environments (i.e. Snowflake).
- Contribute hands-on to data engineering work when needed, including ingestion, transformation, and pipeline support.
- Ensure data processes are reliable, timely, and meet business requirements., * Prioritize work based on business impact, operational risk, and cost considerations.
- Identify opportunities to reduce contractor spend by improving prioritization, eliminating low-value work, and transitioning work internally where appropriate.
- Monitor and manage vendor utilization to ensure alignment with budget and business needs.
Process Improvement & Stability
- Support efforts to stabilize legacy systems (e.g., SSIS) while contributing to modernization initiatives.
- Identify and reduce manual processes, duplicated work, and inefficient workflows.
- Embed data quality checks and validation into pipelines to improve reliability and trust.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with Finance, Marketing, Growth, Operations, and BI teams to understand priorities and ensure data supports decision-making.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders on priorities, trade-offs, and delivery timelines.
Production Support
- Support production processes, including incident response, issue resolution, and root cause analysis.
- Contribute to establishing and maintaining SLAs and operational standards.

Additional Requirements * Office Environment: Tasks may be conducted within a climate-controlled office setting. * Physical Activity: The role may require the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, supplies, and equipment (up to 15 lbs.) Duties typically involve a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, with frequent changes in position. * Travel: Travel may be required, including travel between Company locations and out-of town destinations as needed (5%). * Safety Equipment: May require the use of safety equipment for infection prevention.

Requirements
Education Required: * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Licenses/Certifications Required: * None
Work Experience Required:
- 6+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data platform roles.
- 2+ years of experience leadership, specifically leading enterprise data or platform teams.
Preferred Qualifications, Education, Licenses, Certifications, Experience, etc.:
- Experience in healthcare, regulated industries, or multi-entity environments.
- Experience modernizing legacy data platforms alongside cloud-native systems.
- Experience partnering closely with Finance, Marketing, and Operations leadership.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This role involves overseeing team members and interaction and collaboration with other departments and requires excellent judgment and interpersonal skills
- Strong hands-on experience supporting and operating production data systems with defined uptime, delivery, and support expectations.
- Ability to contribute technically across data ingestion, transformation, and data pipeline support (hands-on capability expected).
- Experience working with and managing third-party vendors or contractor teams, including work assignment, quality oversight, and accountability.
- Ability to prioritize work effectively across competing demands, focusing on businesscritical outcomes and cost efficiency.
- Working knowledge of cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake), analytics engineering tools (e.g., dbt), orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow), and ELT tools (e.g., Fivetran).
- Experience supporting and stabilizing legacy ETL systems (e.g., SSIS) within hybrid environments.
- Ability to identify inefficiencies, reduce manual processes, and improve operational workflows.
- Understanding of data platform cost drivers and ability to support cost optimization efforts.
- Ability to establish and support production processes, SLAs, and issue resolution workflows.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead day-to-day team execution, provide direction, and hold resources accountable for delivery.
