Job description

The IT Support Technician manages, maintains, and supports the hardware, software, and peripheral infrastructure across both academic (faculty, classrooms, and specialized labs) and administrative (staff) departments. This role balances day-to-day technical troubleshooting with asset lifecycle management and vendor coordination to ensure seamless campus-wide technology operations.

Duties:

  1. Provides technical support and one-on-one instruction for faculty and staff on basic computer needs (e.g., mapping folders, email retrieval, VPN access, and remote instruction technology).

  2. Maintains software and hardware for employee computers, classrooms, and specialized academic labs (including the gaming lab).

  3. Provides technical support for classroom projection/display systems, campus audio equipment, print/copy management systems, and VOIP telephone connectivity.

  4. Delivers network support for connecting devices and assists in resolving campus connectivity issues with endpoint devices such as switches and access points.

  5. Utilizes the Help Desk ticketing system to track, resolve, and document requests. Assists in creating internal IT procedures, user training materials, and onboarding documentation.

  6. Evaluates, recommends, and purchases computer hardware and software for employees, academic labs, and classrooms.

  7. Maintains an accurate, current inventory of campus computer hardware, software, and related technological equipment.

  8. Coordinates with other IT support staff to ensure timely service, collaborates internally to provide team guidance, and interfaces with outside vendors for technology renovations and projects.

Supervision Given: Work-study and student labor positions as needed or delegated.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Windows?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, 1. Customer support experience in a help desk environment

  1. Hands-on Windows and Mac hardware, software, and peripheral troubleshooting experience
  2. Excellent organization and analytical skills
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, 1. Bachelor’s degree in an area of Information Technology
  5. A+ or other relevant certifications
  6. 2-5 years of experience with supporting computer hardware, software, and AV equipment
  7. Prior experience in academic setting
  8. IT supervisory experience

Other: Additional Responsibilities: The role may include other duties as assigned to support the overall operations and mission of the college. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as responsibilities may evolve based on institutional needs.

Work Autonomy: This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and requires the ability to perform duties independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision while meeting organizational goals and expectations.

Some evening and weekend work is required. The use of student break periods is necessary for completing projects while some facilities are not in use. Student move-in days and other events may fall on weekends and require staffing. Must be able to lift computer and classroom equipment (approximately 25-30lbs). Some tasks may require the use of a ladder.

There is a moderate amount of physical work required, such as walking between buildings and up and down stairs, working with physical equipment in tight places, installing equipment into server racks, etc.
