Job description

Symbotic is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Test Engineer to support the design, build, and deployment of manufacturing test fixtures for electromechanical and robotic systems. This role focuses on fixture development, mechanical integration, debugging, automation, and manufacturing support across internal production sites and Contract Manufacturers (CMs).

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical design fundamentals, hands-on build experience, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams including Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to develop reliable, scalable, and production-ready manufacturing test solutions.

Depending on experience and demonstrated capability, the candidate may take ownership of larger technical projects, lead fixture development activities, support deployment across multiple sites, and provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians.

What you’ll do

  • Design and develop mechanical test fixtures for subassemblies and end-of-line manufacturing testing, including structural frames, enclosures, tooling, and mounting systems.

  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools.

  • Support fixture build, integration, assembly, alignment, and validation activities.

  • Design and integrate mechanical actuation systems including pneumatics, motors, linear actuators, and motion systems for automated testing.

  • Perform mechanical debugging and root cause analysis to resolve fixture, reliability, and manufacturing issues.

  • Collaborate closely with Electrical, Controls, and Software Engineering teams to integrate sensors, wiring, safety systems, and automation components.

  • Support deployment and sustainment of fixtures at manufacturing sites and Contract Manufacturers (CMs), including troubleshooting and continuous improvements.

  • Drive improvements focused on fixture reliability, ergonomics, manufacturability, repeatability, cycle time reduction, and cost optimization.

  • Analyze production and fixture issues to identify opportunities for process and design improvements.

  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing ramp activities.

  • Lead or support technical projects related to manufacturing test fixture development and deployment.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers, technicians, and manufacturing teams as needed.
