Job description

The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations for multiple nonprofit and for-profit entities. This role is responsible for consolidated financial reporting, grant compliance, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, audits, internal controls, and strategic financial planning.

The ideal candidate is a strong leader, fast thinker, and problem solver who can confidently manage competing priorities while providing accurate and timely financial information to executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities Multi-Entity Financial Management

· Oversee accounting operations for multiple affiliated entities.

· Maintain separate books and records while preparing consolidated financial statements.

· Manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and allocations.

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

· Develop executive-level financial reporting packages and dashboards.

· Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.

Grant Management & Nonprofit Compliance

· Oversee grant accounting, tracking, reporting, and compliance.

· Monitor restricted and unrestricted funding sources.

· Ensure proper allocation of expenses to grants and programs.

· Prepare financial reports for grantors, foundations, and government agencies.

· Support annual IRS Form 990 preparation.

· Assist with nonprofit audits and compliance reviews.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning

· Lead annual budgeting processes across all entities.

· Develop rolling forecasts and long-term financial projections.

· Conduct financial modeling for growth initiatives, acquisitions, and new programs.

· Analyze operational performance and provide recommendations to leadership.

· Monitor financial trends and key performance indicators.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

· Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning.

· Monitor multiple bank accounts and financial relationships.

· Develop strategies to maximize cash resources and operational efficiency.

· Support financing activities, banking relationships, and credit facilities.

Compliance, Audit & Risk Management

· Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

· Coordinate external audits and serve as primary liaison to auditors and CPA firms.

· Oversee tax-related filings and compliance activities.

· Develop and maintain strong internal controls.

· Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.

Leadership & Systems

· Supervise and mentor accounting and finance personnel.

· Standardize accounting policies and procedures across entities.

· Improve financial systems, reporting processes, and workflow efficiencies.

· Support ERP and accounting software implementations and enhancements.

· Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

· 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

· 5+ years of leadership experience managing accounting teams.

· Experience managing multiple entities or complex organizational structures.

· Strong understanding of GAAP.

· Experience preparing consolidated financial statements.

· Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

· Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Preferred

· CPA designation.

· Experience managing both nonprofit and for-profit organizations.

· Significant grant accounting and compliance experience.

· Experience with government-funded programs and reimbursement contracts.

· Experience with annual audits and Form 990 preparation.

· Experience with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar ERP systems.

· Experience in social services, behavioral health, housing, healthcare, residential care, or nonprofit organizations.
