Job description

Sigma is an enterprise platform for building secure data apps and analytics that run directly on your data platform: Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, and Redshift. There are no extracts and no stale copies, so data stays live and governed wherever people work with it.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll embed with our largest enterprise customers and turn their hardest data problems into working solutions on Sigma. You’ll sit with their teams, learn how they actually run the business, and build the workbooks, data apps, input tables, and automated workflows that move that work forward. This is a high-ownership role for someone who’s equally comfortable in a customer’s warehouse, in Sigma, and in a room with senior business and technical stakeholders.

You’ll work closely with our Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering teams, own the technical relationship for your accounts, and help shape how Sigma builds its forward-deployed practice.

What you’ll do

  • Lead implementations from kickoff to production. Take a focused portfolio of strategic enterprise customers from first connection to a live deployment. Connect Sigma to their data platform, model their data, configure security and governance to match their policies, and build Sigma documents that best fit their use case.
  • Embed with customer teams. Uncover the business problem behind each request, then design and build the right solution in Sigma: workbooks, data apps, input tables, and automated workflows on live warehouse data.
  • Build solutions teams depend on. Ship production-grade work that real users rely on every day, and set up Sigma Assistant so business users can ask questions of their data in plain language. incorporate the latest-and-greatest of the Sigma platform to drive new feature adoption.
  • Run live technical sessions. Lead discovery sessions, working sessions, and troubleshooting calls with both business users and data engineers. Adjust your technical depth to the room and keep your composure when the stakes are high.
  • Watch performance in production. Catch query performance, data accuracy, and governance issues early, and resolve them before they reach the customer’s users.
  • Escalate issues and needs, and document them. Surface technical blockers, integration gaps, and customer requests to the right internal team, and document them clearly so they can be tracked, prioritized, and resolved with full context.
  • Turn what works into reusable assets. Write implementation guides, build solution templates, and codify deployment patterns the whole field team can reuse. Mentor newer engineers as the practice grows.
  • Grow the relationship. Build lasting trust with your customers and spot new places Sigma can help, whether that’s a new team, a new use case, or a new data source.
  • Travel to customers. Up to 25% travel to customer sites, depending on location, to build alongside their teams in person., Most analytics tools copy data out of the warehouse and work on a cached version. Sigma runs directly on the data platform, so data is always live, security policies are always enforced, and nothing breaks when the source changes. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll be the person who proves that out inside our most important accounts, and you’ll help define how Sigma shows up in the field as the team grows.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Schema design?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role: forward deployed engineering, solutions or sales engineering, analytics engineering, professional services, or similar.

  • Strong SQL and hands-on data modeling. You can shape messy source data into something a business team can actually use.
  • Direct experience with at least one cloud data platform: Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
  • A track record building production analytics or data apps, with ownership from design through deployment.
  • Clear communication at every level of an organization, from analysts to senior executives, in both technical and business terms.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the independence to drive an engagement without a script.
  • The organization to manage several customer engagements at once in a fast-moving environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent technical and business experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Sigma or comparable analytics platforms such as Tableau, Looker, or Power BI.
