Job description

  • Own the architecture of our cloud platform across a hybrid environment (AWS primary), including compute orchestration, networking, secrets management, and data
  • Design and lead the orchestration strategy
  • Build and standardize CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling that let a small team ship safely and fast, with audit trails and controls that satisfy banking compliance requirements
  • Establish infrastructure-as-code standards (such as Terraform) including shared, composable modules, environment promotion, and drift management
  • Define identity, access, and secrets architecture: OAuth2/OIDC, RBAC, mTLS, IAM policy design, and key management appropriate for financial data
  • Partner with the Head of Bank Technology, compliance and security stakeholders to embed regulatory requirements (SOC 2, PCI DSS, FFIEC-aligned controls, ISO 20022 where applicable) into the platform rather than bolting them on
  • Architect for integration: event-driven patterns, message queues, webhooks, and well-designed REST/gRPC APIs to support partner banking and fintech integrations
  • Stand up observability as a first-class concern - metrics, tracing, logging, and alerting (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana or equivalent)
  • Evaluate and integrate AI-assisted developer tooling and agentic systems into engineering workflows, with appropriate isolation and governance for a regulated context
  • Mentor engineers, raise the bar on system design and operational practices, and help shape hiring as the team grows

Supervision of Personnel

  • None

Requirements

Do you have experience in Leadership?, * Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field., * 10+ years in backend and infrastructure engineering, with at least 3 in an architecture or technical leadership capacity, * Deep, hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, EC2, S3, SQS/EventBridge, API Gateway, DynamoDB, KMS, IAM) and infrastructure-as-code with Terraform

  • Production experience with container orchestration - Kubernetes required; HashiCorp Nomad/Vault/Consul experience a strong plus
  • Strong backend engineering background in Go and/or Java (TypeScript a plus); you still write production code
  • Track record delivering platforms in regulated financial services - banking, payments, or adjacent - with practical knowledge of compliance-driven engineering (audit logging, separation of duties, change management)
  • Experience designing IAM and authentication architectures: OAuth2/OIDC, RBAC, mTLS, secrets management
  • Demonstrated success building or overhauling CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar) across multiple environments
  • Strong communication skills - able to align product, compliance, and external stakeholders, and to explain architectural trade-offs to non-engineers

Additional Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Payments domain depth: wire transfers, ACH, real-time payments, ISO 20022
  • Experience scaling a platform and team from greenfield through significant growth
  • Event-driven platform experience (eventing, streaming, queues)
  • Experience designing and architecting data persistence across relational (PostgreSQL or similar), NoSQL (document, key-value), and analytical systems - including data warehouse or lakehouse design, schema modeling, and choosing the right store for the workload
  • Familiarity with AI/LLM developer tooling, RAG, vector search, or agent orchestration frameworks and the governance considerations of using them in regulated environments
  • Multi-cloud or hybrid cloud experience (Azure exposure a plus
