Job description

  • This position plays a crucial role in managing, maintaining, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of student data within the Synergy SIS and other integrated data systems used by the Nebraska Department of Education (i.e. Adviser). The Data Steward also acts as a liaison between various school stakeholders and the IT department to optimize Synergy’s usage, generate reports, and ensure compliance with reporting guidelines., * Oversee and manage the operations and functionality of Synergy SIS across the district, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with established standards and policies.

  • Configure and maintain Synergy modules and functionalities like online registration, scheduling, gradebook, assessment, etc.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Synergy, providing support and guidance to school staff.

Data Stewardship & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain the integrity of all confidential student data within Synergy and associated systems.

  • Conduct data quality checks, identify inconsistencies, and implement corrective actions to ensure data accuracy.

  • Assist in the development and compliance of data standards, policies, and procedures for data entry, storage, and retrieval in alignment with the data governance framework.

  • Compile, error check, and submit district data to the NDE.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Generate various reports from Synergy for internal use, state, and federal reporting requirements (e.g., ADM, SSID, MARSS/EdFi).

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements related to student data (e.g., FERPA).

  • Develop custom reports and queries as needed, using tools like SQL for data extraction and analysis.

  • Enter and maintain staff reporting data for NDE.

Training and Support

  • Provide training and support to district and school personnel on the effective and proper use of Synergy SIS and data management practices.

Develop and maintain documentation, user guides, and training materials for Synergy users.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, and IT staff, to ensure the optimal utilization of Synergy and address data-related needs.

  • Act as a liaison between the district and the Synergy vendor to address technical issues and ensure system updates.

Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical staff, students, and parents.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Teamwork?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, Pay depends on education and experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Education Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in student information system management, with a strong focus on Synergy SIS.

  • Experience with relational databases and SQL querying is highly desirable.

  • Experience with state and federal student data reporting requirements is preferred., Technical: Proficient in using and managing the Synergy Student Information System and related modules. Strong data management, analysis, and SQL skills. Familiarity with data governance frameworks and data quality best practices.

Soft Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and project management skills.

Mindset: Solution focused and collaborative.
