Job description
The Lead / Cloud Migration Architect serves as the technical authority and Pod Lead for large-scale enterprise migrations from on-premises environments to AWS Outposts. The role is accountable for defining migration strategies, designing hybrid cloud architectures, modernizing applications and infrastructure, and driving end-to-end execution across multiple migration workstreams. This position requires deep expertise in AWS, hybrid connectivity, infrastructure modernization, application refactoring, and enterprise-grade migration governance.
The architect will collaborate closely with application owners, infrastructure teams, security, networking, DevOps, and operations to ensure migrations are secure, scalable, compliant, and low-risk, while maintaining architectural standards and operational excellence., <>Migration Strategy & Architecture Leadership
- Define end-to-end migration strategies for moving enterprise applications from on-premises data centers to AWS Outposts and hybrid AWS environments.
- Develop target state architectures covering compute, storage, networking, IAM, observability, and operational models.
- Lead migration pods, providing technical direction, prioritization, and issue resolution across application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams.
- Conduct application portfolio assessments, cloud readiness evaluations, and dependency mapping.
<>Hybrid Cloud & Infrastructure Modernization
- Architect hybrid connectivity solutions including Direct Connect, VPN, Transit Gateway, VPC design, and Outposts networking.
- Modernize legacy infrastructure components (compute, storage, middleware, databases) to cloud-aligned architectures.
- Define HA/DR strategies, backup/restore models, and operational runbooks for hybrid deployments.
- Oversee containerization, virtualization modernization, and infrastructure automation.
<>Application & Code Modernization
- Lead modernization of enterprise applications including:
- Java 8 * Java 17/21 upgrades
- Spring Boot modernization and framework uplift
- Dependency remediation, library upgrades, and security patching
- Refactoring monoliths to microservices where applicable
- Ensure applications meet cloud-readiness standards for deployment on AWS Outposts.
- Guide teams on API modernization, configuration externalization, and performance optimization.
<>Migration Execution & Governance
- Define migration waves, cutover plans, rollback strategies, and validation frameworks.
- Oversee data migration, schema conversion, and integration testing.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security, IAM, encryption, and audit requirements.
- Drive technical risk mitigation, issue triage, and escalation management.
<>Automation, CI/CD & DevOps Integration
- Integrate applications into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, or AWS CodePipeline.
- Implement IaC using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Automate build, test, deployment, and environment provisioning workflows.
- Establish observability standards using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or equivalent.
<>Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with security teams to ensure compliance with enterprise and regulatory standards.
- Work with operations teams to define monitoring, alerting, and operational handoff processes.
- Lead architecture reviews, design workshops, and technical deep dives with stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineers across pods.
Requirements
- 10+ years in cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, or enterprise modernization roles.
- 5+ years hands-on experience with AWS, including hybrid cloud and Outposts.
- Strong expertise in networking (VPC, routing, firewalls, DNS, load balancing).
- Deep experience with application modernization: Java, Spring Boot, microservices, API design.
- Proficiency in CI/CD, DevOps, IaC, automation, and container platforms (EKS, ECS, Docker).
- Strong understanding of security, IAM, encryption, compliance, and governance frameworks.
- Proven leadership experience managing migration pods or multi-team technical programs., * AWS Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent certifications.
- Experience with large-scale enterprise migration programs (AWS MAP, hybrid cloud transformations).
- Background in database modernization (Postgres, SQL Server, MongoDB, RDS, Aurora).
- Experience with service mesh, API gateways, and event-driven architectures.
- Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bacholers Degree in Computer Science or equivalent in related field.
