Job description

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is seeking highly motivated recent graduates to join the Information Technology Cyber Security Team through the Pathways Recent Graduates Program. As an IT Specialist Recent Graduate, you will participate in a developmental program in support of the Commission’s cyber security programs., As a participant in the Recent Graduates Program, you will receive both formal and on-the-job training to develop the required knowledge and skill to successfully perform the duties of the position. The incumbent will complete formal and informal training, as well as rotational assignments intended to provide and enhance necessary technical competencies. Duties may include:

  • Performs in-depth analysis of information systems to assess security compliance and document findings.
  • Prepares system security documentation in accordance with federal directives for complex Information Technology Systems
  • Assists with evaluating cyber security implications for systems in development or modification to meet user requirements;
  • Contributes to carrying out program goals and establishing priorities to support the organizational mission., The law prohibits public officials from appointing, promoting, or recommending their relatives. Requirements

Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

At the CT-7 level, you will receive training and perform tasks of limited scope and complexity. At the CT-9 and CT-11 levels, you will work with increasing independence and responsibility. CT-7:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree; OR
  • Completion of 1 full year of graduate-level education; OR
  • Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) Superior Academic Achievement, if applicable.

Specialized experience equivalent to CT-5 level has a strong knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals such as vulnerabilities, emerging threats, security controls and risk management. CT-9:

  • Completion of a master’s or equivalent graduate degree; OR
  • Completion of 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR
  • Specialized experience equivalent to the CT-7 level performs basis analysis of automated systems for programing and design

CT-11:

  • Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR
  • Completion of 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education; OR
  • Specialized experience equivalent to the CT-9 level performs moderately complex system analysis and develop/modify system user requirements

Experience must be IT-related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate, demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
