Job description
Autodesk’s Platform Services and Emerging Technology (PSET) team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and scale our Data Platform Control Plane. You’ll design and build a scalable data platform with intelligent orchestration systems that manage data workflows, architect metadata-driven automation for storage and compute resources, and create self-service control mechanisms that ensure platform reliability while empowering Autodesk teams to deliver impactful customer features.
You will tackle complex distributed systems challenges, build sophisticated workflow orchestration engines, and develop the control plane services that enable seamless data operations across our product ecosystem. If you’re passionate about building distributed systems at scale, we want to meet you!
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable control plane APIs for data platform orchestration, enabling self-service workflow management and resource provisioning
- Architect metadata-driven control systems that orchestrate billions of records daily across batch and real-time data pipelines
- Develop intelligent automation and scheduling systems that ensure data workflow resilience and minimize operational overhead
- Create control plane abstractions and APIs that empower Autodesk teams to rapidly configure and deploy data-driven customer features
- Implement comprehensive security and governance frameworks for data access control, lineage tracking, and compliance
- Drive observability initiatives to monitor workflow health, data quality, and control plane performance at scale
- Collaborate with data engineers and platform teams to translate data requirements into robust control plane capabilities
- Establish and evangelize best practices for workflow orchestration, metadata management, and data platform automation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering
- 4+ years building and running large-scale systems in production environments
- Strong programming skills in Go or python with deep understanding of distributed systems and orchestration patterns
- Proven experience building microservices architectures, workflow engines, and designing RESTful/event-driven APIs
- Intermediate knowledge of AWS services with demonstrated ability to quickly learn data orchestration technologies
- Strong communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of AWS data services (EKS, EMR, S3, GDC, Lake Formation)
- Deep experience with workflow orchestration platforms (Airflow, Temporal) and event-driven architectures
- Hands-on experience with big data technologies (Spark, Trino, Kafka) and understanding their orchestration requirements
- Experience with metadata management, data cataloging, and lineage tracking systems
- Experience with enterprise observability and data quality monitoring tools (Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk)
- Experience mentoring junior developers and contributing to control plane architecture decisions
- Experience working in cross-functional teams with data engineers, data scientists, and product managers
