Job description

As the Systems Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of talented engineers in the design, development, and integration of mission-critical systems for the Aerospace industry. This role bridges strategic technical leadership and people management, driving our product development lifecycle from initial concept to formal certification. You will be responsible for empowering your team, establishing robust engineering methodologies, and ensuring our hardware and software systems are high-performing, safe, and fully certifiable. We are recruiting for candidates willing to live and work in the Hood River, Oregon area. This is not a remote eligible position. Essential Job Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of systems engineers. Allocate resources, manage workloads, and foster a collaborative, continuous-improvement culture.

  • Guide comprehensive system safety assessments to determine safety assurance levels (DALs). Ensure all team deliverables align with strict aerospace safety objectives and regulatory standards.
  • Build the strategy for integrated software and hardware architectures. Lead high-level system partitioning, interface definitions, and complex use-case development across programs.
  • Oversee top-down and bottom-up traceability from requirements to final verification. Review and approve system verification test plans, execution strategies, and documentation.
  • As the primary technical liaison between systems engineering and other multi-disciplinary engineering functions, ensure system and high-level requirements are properly allocated and aligned.
  • Provide direct support and leadership during formal certification activities, acting as a key point of contact for regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with other engineering managers to help them craft well-formed low-level requirements appropriate for their discipline.
  • Partner with customer-facing executives to solidify big, audacious, and sometimes ambiguous statements of fact about the future state of our products.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Supervising experience?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * BS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Master’s degree or leadership certifications preferred.

  • At least 7+ years of professional systems engineering experience in the aerospace or defense sector, with a minimum of 2+ years in a formal leadership, supervisory, or management role.
  • Proven professional experience navigating product certifications; FAA certification experience is highly preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
