Job description

As a GIS Technician based at The Villages, FL, you will be an integral member of a collaborative team dedicated to ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential services., Field Data Collection & Verification

  • Perform field verification of utility assets (water, wastewater, lift stations, valves, hydrants, etc.)
  • Collect and update GPS data to improve GIS accuracy.
  • Validate asset attributes, condition, and location in coordination with field crews.
  • Document discrepancies and support resolution.

GIS & Cityworks Support

  • Perform routine GIS edits and updates under guidance from the CW/GIS Administrator
  • Assist with maintaining data integrity across GIS and Cityworks
  • Support asset creation, updates, and cleanup tasks.
  • Help process daily requests and tickets related to mapping and asset data.

Operational Support

  • Function as a local point of contact for GIS-related needs within The Villages operations teams.
  • Coordinate directly with field crews to gather required information.
  • Provide basic map support, data extracts, and field-friendly deliverables.

Project & Program Support

  • Assist with ongoing asset migration efforts and data standardization.
  • Provide limited support efforts to DPM Cityworks administrator.
  • Help prepare data for reporting efforts.
  • Participate in data QA/QC efforts for large-scale initiatives.

Training & Development

  • Receive training and guidance from the CW/GIS Administrator on standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Develop working knowledge of GIS platforms, Cityworks, and asset management processes.
  • Gradually take on more responsibility for independent task execution

Requirements

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Basic understanding of GIS concepts and mapping principles
  • Ability to work both in the field and in an office environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Ability to follow established processes and standards.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with field personnel.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally within The Villages service area.

Ideally, here’s what you will also have:

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online)
  • Familiarity with Cityworks or similar asset management systems
  • Experience with GPS data collection equipment or mobile GIS applications
  • Exposure to utility systems (water, wastewater, or stormwater)
  • Basic understanding of asset management principles
  • Experience working in a municipal, utility, or field operations environment.
