Job description

Ask Sage, a BigBear.ai company, is hiring a Front End Engineer to help build the next generation of its GenAI platform serving enterprise and government customers. You will work directly with the product lead and designer to ship features across our React frontend, with significant ownership over components, pages, and user flows. This is a hands-on engineering role with room to grow into architectural decisions as you ramp up. We are looking for an engineer who ships steadily, communicates clearly when blocked, brings strong instincts for UX details, and has a genuine interest in AI tooling and where this space is going., * Build React + TypeScript features against detailed scoping docs and Figma designs.

  • Implement and extend our MUI-based design system, including theme work and custom components.
  • Wire up streaming chat interfaces, inline artifacts, and real-time UI patterns against LLM backends.
  • Collaborate with the designer on Figma handoffs and iterate quickly on UX details.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical scoping, and sprint planning.
  • Help migrate legacy patterns (e.g., plugin system MCP) as we modernize the platform.
  • Ship to staging and production in Docker-based deployments.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years building production frontends with React and TypeScript.
  • Solid experience with MUI including theming, customization, and composition patterns.
  • Strong CSS fundamentals and an eye for design fidelity.
  • Comfortable working from Figma designs and asking the right clarifying questions.
  • Experience integrating with REST APIs, including auth and streaming responses.
  • Git workflow proficiency and a collaborative approach to code review.
  • Clear written communication for async work.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to push back on scope when something doesn’t make sense.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

What we’d like you to have

  • Experience with AI/LLM-integrated UIs (chat, streaming, artifacts).
  • Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol).
  • Experience with Docker and containerized development environments.
  • Exposure to government/regulated industry workflows (FedRAMP, IL5).
  • AI-augmented development experience (Claude Code, Cursor).
  • Backend curiosity with a willingness to dip into Node.js or Python when needed.
