Job description

A leading financial technology organization is hiring a Senior Linux Systems Engineer for a full-time hybrid position in Chicago, IL (also open to Scottsdale, San Francisco, or New York). This role focuses on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware virtualization, and AWS cloud services, supporting high-availability systems that process large-scale financial transactions.

Maintaining and optimizing system performance and availability Implementing automation and infrastructure as code practices Supporting incident response and root cause analysis efforts Collaborating with internal teams and external vendors

Daily Responsibilities 70% Hands-on engineering and system work 10% Troubleshooting and incident response 20% Team collaboration and cross-functional support

Requirements

8+ years of experience administering Linux systems, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux Strong knowledge of Linux internals and kernel-level concepts Experience in large enterprise environments with distributed infrastructure Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills Hands-on experience with VMware or similar virtualization platforms Experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, and VPC Automation experience using Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl Experience with system patching, performance tuning, and system hardening Strong understanding of encryption and security best practices

Desired Skills and Experience Certifications such as RHCE or AWS Solutions Architect Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Podman Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices Exposure to multiple Linux distributions Experience in financial services or other regulated industries
