Job description

Lytx is looking for a motivated undergraduate student to join our Hardware Engineering team as a Jr. Hardware Engineering Contractor to work on Second Sourcing Support for Device components. In this role, you’ll help ensure our supply chain stays resilient by identifying and qualifying alternate component sources for our hardware products. Your work will directly support our ability to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions to fleets worldwide.

What you’ll do

  • Research and identify alternate suppliers for electronic components used in Lytx hardware products
  • Support component qualification processes, including reviewing datasheets, comparing specifications, coordinating sample requests, and completing component/circuit level testing.
  • Work cross-functionally with procurement, HW Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality teams to document second source findings.
  • Maintain and update component databases and approved vendor lists (AVLs)
  • Assist in risk assessments for single-source components and propose mitigation strategies
  • Help prepare Test reports and recommendations for engineering review

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field (junior or senior standing required)
  • Familiarity with electronic components (Resistors, Capacitors, MOSFETs, Diodes, SDRAM, ICs, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks at once
  • Comfortable using AI tools to research and identify alternative components efficiently (ex: Copilot, Claude, etc.)
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets, including building Excel comparison sheets to evaluate components across key specifications and suppliers
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn and use various lab test equipment (DMM, Thermal chambers, Programable power supplies, oscilloscopes, microscopes, Cellular callboxes, Soldering and rework equipment)
  • A proactive mindset and genuine curiosity about how hardware gets built and sourced

Why Lytx

You’ll gain hands-on experience in a hardware-driven environment where your contributions matter from day one. This is a chance to work alongside experienced engineers and supply chain professionals, build real skills in component sourcing, and see firsthand how thoughtful supply chain decisions help keep drivers safe on the road.
