Job description

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend software supporting satellite ground operations.
  • Build and manage APIs to control, monitor, and interact with satellite systems.
  • Integrate applications with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS, EKS, and Fargate.
  • Optimize system performance, scalability, cost efficiency, and security across cloud environments.
  • Develop and deploy containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, implement features, and resolve technical issues.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps processes, and infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform.
  • Contribute to software architecture design and system improvements.
  • Prototype and integrate AI/ML or generative AI capabilities where applicable.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum development cycles with frontend and backend teams.

Requirements

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Space Software Engineer to support the development of ground-based software systems for satellite operations. This role focuses on building scalable backend services and APIs that enable communication with large constellations of satellites. The ideal candidate is a strong Python developer with cloud experience in AWS and a background in building high-performance, distributed systems. No prior satellite experience is required., * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • 3+ years of experience in backend or full-stack software development.
  • Strong programming experience in Python .
  • Experience developing APIs and working with GraphQL or RESTful services.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, etc.).
  • Experience with containerization tools such as Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience using Git-based version control platforms (GitHub or GitLab).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical teams.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Preferred:

  • Experience integrating AI/ML APIs or platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar.
  • Familiarity with real-time data systems and distributed architectures.
  • Experience contributing across backend, DevSecOps, and system architecture domains.
