Job description
We are seeking a Senior Data Architect to support the USDA Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) Enterprise Data and Analytics Platform (EDAPT). This role will lead enterprise-wide data architecture initiatives across cloud and hybrid environments, enabling scalable analytics, secure integration, and governance-driven data management. The ideal candidate will translate business and mission requirements into modern data solutions that support enterprise reporting, advanced analytics, and trusted decision-making while ensuring compliance with federal security and data governance standards., * Define and maintain enterprise data architecture standards, frameworks, and roadmaps supporting FPAC’s EDAPT environment.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical architectures across data lakes, warehouses, analytics platforms, and operational systems.
- Establish end-to-end data strategy including ingestion, transformation, storage, governance, and consumption patterns.
- Develop architecture artifacts including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Architect enterprise data ecosystems spanning cloud and hybrid environments including AWS and on-premises platforms.
- Lead implementation of scalable data solutions using AWS S3, Athena, Glue, Redshift, Databricks, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and related technologies.
- Design and govern multi-source integrations and enterprise data pipelines.
- Establish patterns for secure data sharing and interoperability across business domains.
- Drive metadata management, lineage tracking, cataloging, and governance practices.
- Implement and maintain governance frameworks leveraging tools such as Unity Catalog and enterprise metadata repositories.
- Ensure architecture alignment with federal security and compliance requirements including FISMA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53.
- Define standards for data quality, stewardship, retention, and lifecycle management.
- Serve as the senior technical authority for enterprise data architecture initiatives.
- Collaborate with executives, product owners, developers, and data engineering teams.
- Review architectural designs, database models, and engineering implementations for scalability and performance.
- Mentor technical teams and establish architectural best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture, data engineering, or data platform modernization.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Proven experience leading large-scale enterprise data architecture initiatives.
- Hands-on experience with AWS data services such as S3, Athena, Glue, and Redshift.
- Experience across hybrid environments including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Informix
- Strong experience with: Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, Metadata Management, Data Governance, Data Modeling, Enterprise Integration Patterns
- Knowledge of: FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53., * Experience supporting USDA or other Federal Civilian agencies.
- PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, or SAFe certifications.
- Exposure to cloud data ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Knowledge of ETL, data lake, data governance, and modern BI platforms.
