Job description

The Senior Information Technology Project Manager is a key member of the IT Project Delivery Team, responsible for leading the planning, execution, and oversight of complex technology programs/projects that support the Authority’s strategic and operational goals. This role manages end-to-end delivery of technology initiatives-including new software implementations, IT service deployments, and process scaling-while ensuring adherence to ITIL/ITSM practices, Enterprise Architecture guidelines, Cyber Security requirements, and other NYPA technical standards and policies.

Working under the guidance of the Senior Manager of IT Project Delivery and within established IT strategy and governance frameworks, the Sr. IT Project Manager organizes and directs cross-functional project/program teams, assigns responsibilities, develops integrated schedules, determines and secures resource requirements, and monitors progress against scope, budget, timeline, and quality targets. The role collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and external partners, effectively managing expectations and communications to drive successful outcomes.

The Sr. IT Project Manager is accountable for tracking and reporting project status-including cost, timing, staffing, risks, and issues-while ensuring compliance with internal and external quality standards, IT operational and change management procedures, and the guidance of IT Project Governance and the Project Review Committee. By facilitating process improvements and delivering enhanced information for management decision-making, this position contributes directly to the efficient operation of the business.

This role may encompass both general project/program management responsibilities and technical project leadership, applying foundational technical knowledge to advise on scope changes and other technical aspects, and ensuring that all initiatives are delivered in a controlled, compliant, and business-value-driven manner. #LI-AE1, * Responsible for management of projects.   • Manage a group of projects of different sizes and in different phases, concurrently.
  • Develop and manage project documents via PMO project checklist for specific project.
  • Manage the project stakeholders’ expectations accordingly to realize each requirement for the stakeholder via business change and technology change impacts.
  • Manage communication with Subject Matter Expert (SME) and assist in identifying opportunities for business process improvements within project scope.
  • Manage the project team with realistic resource plan for requirement, design or configuration, testing, change management, training, and handover to product support.
  • Mitigate the project risk and manage conflicts.
  • Monitor the project schedule, budget, deliveries. Update PMO Project Management site; track progress and review project tasks to make certain deadlines are met appropriately.
  • Continuously improve project management toolkits and methodologies. Provide expertise and consulting to project managers in the process of project management and in the softer skills of team dynamics, team building and group motivation.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of IT missions and operations.
  • In-depth understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of own professional discipline.
  • Deep understanding of project management phases, techniques, and tools.
  • Deep and tested project management skills including customer satisfaction management, sponsor expectation management, risk management, change management.
  • Deep knowledge of organization’s methodology and tools.
  • Ability to function as a Project Manager and/or business functional lead on departmental and/or organization wide projects.
  • In-depth inter-personal skills, conflict resolution, and negotiating skills, to ensure open communication across project teams.
  • Deep understanding of technical skills in all phases of systems analysis techniques.
  • Ability to anticipate when problems may occur and propose solutions.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes,
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical skills in all phases of systems analysis techniques., * Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business discipline required.
  • Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Project Management Certification is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of increasingly responsible experience, including experience successfully managing various projects.
  • Experience in utility or energy industry environment, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Up to 40% travel primarily within NY State to support product launches and related change management activities.
  • Ability to travel on demand to NYPA project sites to conduct onsite evaluations, vendor coordination, customer support, training, and change management
  • Overnight travel to the various NYPA locations within New York State.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $142,000 - $195,800. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
