Job description

Aarnest is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to lead quality assurance and testing for web-based geospatial applications on a Department of Homeland Security enterprise GIS program. You’ll own the test strategy across functional, automated, and accessibility testing - ensuring applications are reliable, secure, and mission-ready before deployment., * Define and own the test strategy, test plans, and test cases for GIS web applications (including ArcGIS Experience Builder and ArcGIS Online/Enterprise apps).

  • Design, build, and maintain automated test suites (UI and API) and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Execute functional, integration, regression, performance, and accessibility (Section 508) testing.
  • Perform API testing (REST services, geospatial endpoints) and validate data integrity across map and feature services.
  • Identify, document, and track defects to resolution; report quality metrics and risks to the team and program leadership.
  • Collaborate with developers, GIS analysts, and architects in an Agile/Scrum environment to embed quality throughout the lifecycle.
  • Mentor junior testers and promote QA best practices across the team.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Web applications?, * 7+ years of software testing / QA engineering experience.

  • Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) and API testing tools (e.g., Postman).
  • Strong understanding of functional, regression, integration, and performance testing methodologies.
  • Experience testing web applications and working in Agile/Scrum delivery.
  • Ability to obtain a DHS Public Trust (Tier 4 / BI).
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills; able to work on-site in the DC area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience testing GIS / Esri ArcGIS applications (Experience Builder, web maps, Portal).
  • Section 508 / accessibility testing experience.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) and defect-tracking tools (Jira).
  • Prior federal/DHS program experience and an active or recent Public Trust.
  • ISTQB or similar QA certification.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field - or equivalent experience., * Software testing: 8 years (Required)

Benefits & conditions

$60 - $70 an hour - Full-time, Contract
