Job description

Akkodis is launching a new technical delivery team to drive a UK national program in collaboration with key partners, designed to transform and future-proof the central government’s workforce. Role

As part of this mission, the Data Migration Specialist role focuses on the planning, execution, and management of data migration projects. Data Migration Specialists are responsible for transferring data from legacy systems to new platforms, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to data integrity standards.

  • Analyse existing data structures and understand business requirements for data migration.
  • Design and implement robust data migration strategies.
  • Develop scripts and processes to automate data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, including business users and IT teams, to ensure data requirements are met, and migrations proceed without disruption to business operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute data migration projects within set timelines.
  • Design and build ETL solutions, ensuring data quality and integrity throughout the migration process.
  • Expertise on Data migrations on to cloud
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues promptly to minimise disruption.
  • Collaborate with various teams to align migration processes with organisational goals and regulatory standards.

Required Skills

  • Execute data migration from on-prem (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, NoSQL) and cloud platforms to AWS, including cloud-to-cloud scenarios.
  • Develop data ingestion pipelines from SaaS platforms (e.g., CRM, CDP, marketing, finance systems such as Pega, Adobe, and similar tools) using APIs, connectors, or data exports.
  • Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL, Python, and PySpark for batch and near real-time processing.
  • Work with AWS services such as DMS, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, S3, Redshift, Athena, RDS, EC2, and CloudWatch.
  • Design and implement data models (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema) to support downstream BI and analytics dashboards.
  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks across migration and ingestion pipelines.
  • Optimize SQL queries and data processing performance (indexing, partitioning, tuning).
  • Use orchestration and automation tools such as Airflow and Terraform.
  • Apply data security and governance standards (GDPR, ISO 27001, NIST, PCI-DSS) using AWS features like IAM and KMS.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver clean, reliable, and analysis-ready datasets for BI reporting and dashboards.AWS or Azure cloud certifications preferred.
  • AWS certifications preferred.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in data migration, data management, or ETL development.
  • Experience working with ETL tools and database management systems.
  • Familiarity with data integrity and compliance standards relevant to data migration.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
