GitHub community manager applying classroom teaching theories to developer relations.
Pj Metz manages student communities at GitHub. After 11 years teaching high school English, he started learning to code on livestream and transitioned into developer relations.
He focuses on how the science of learning can improve tech outreach. Drawing from his time in the classroom, he breaks down the educational mechanics behind why standard community activities like hackathons succeed or fail. Before GitHub, he introduced DevSecOps to students worldwide at GitLab.
Outside of work, Pj is a published poet, a casual musician, and a fan of both 80s music and 90s internet culture.
