Job description

We're hiring a hands-on Front-end Technical Lead to own our web experience end-to-end and grow a small team into a high-performing front-end function. You'll split your time between writing production code, pairing with developers, and providing technical / UX leadership. You'll collaborate closely with the Platform team and coordinate work with external agencies when needed.

We support remote working in the UK and European Union with flexible working hours.

What you'll do

  • Ship code daily : Implement features, fix bugs, and jump on hot-fixes to keep the platform fast and reliable.
  • Lead the front end : Set direction for architecture, testing, performance budgets, accessibility, and design-system usage.
  • Be framework-practical : Work in AngularJS today and guide us toward modern patterns; React experience is welcome. What matters is your willingness to get your hands dirty and deliver.
  • Own UX / UI quality : Champion a comprehensive view of UX and UI, prototype quickly, validate with users, and ensure consistent, accessible experiences.
  • Coordinate partners : Scope and manage external agencies and contractors; review their output for quality and maintainability.
  • Grow the team : Mentor and manage a small Front-end team, partnering with the Platform team on roadmaps, interfaces, and delivery.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on front-end experience building production web apps.
  • Solid grasp of UX concepts and UI design principles; experience with design systems and rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity with tooling such as Git, Docker, and CI / CD pipelines.
  • Excellent English communication skills : able to distill complex topics and align cross-functional teams.
  • Experience mentoring engineers; ability to plan, prioritize, and deliver with limited supervision.
  • Bonus : exposure to application security concepts or a strong interest in learning them.
