Job description
We're hiring a Software Architect to take the lead on designing cutting edge systems that power a nationwide payment network. We're looking for someone who's not only a brilliant technical mind but also a strategic thinker, someone who can bridge business goals with elegant, scalable architecture.
In this role, you'll take ownership of the design and development efforts across the API, switch, and gateway platforms, core to the real-time payment processing infrastructure. You'll help define the technology vision, guide the architecture roadmap, and ensure it aligns with business strategy.
What You'll Be Doing
- Set and guide technical direction with a practical, forward-thinking mindset
- Maintain and evolve the company-wide architecture and tech roadmap
- Identify cross-platform architectural challenges and drive long-term solutions
- Define architecture principles, standards, and integration approaches
- Collaborate with engineering teams to coach, support, and review design choices
- Document and share strategies, decisions, and best practices across the team
- Support design outcomes through hands-on coding as needed
- Explore new technologies and help shape build vs. buy decisions
- Communicate tech strategy clearly to both engineers and non-tech stakeholders
- Build strong cross-functional relationships inside and outside the org
Requirements
- 10+ years in software design and architecture, ideally across enterprise-grade systems
- Proven experience building SaaS platforms, public APIs, and real-time services
- Hands-on expertise in performance tuning and scalability (web apps + databases)
- Experience in the payments industry is a big bonus
- Ability to translate business needs into scalable, elegant technical solutions
- Strong communication skills, able to influence, mentor, and lead cross-functional teams
- A strategic mindset with a willingness to experiment and iterate when needed
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving clarity through architecture
- Remote-first (UK / Ireland)
