Job description
Withthegrid is a rapidly growing European scale-up in the cleantech sector. We assist grid operators and renewable energy producers in managing their infrastructure more intelligently and efficiently.
Our Asset Monitoring Platform (AMP) provides real-time insights into the condition of networks through IoT technology. This enables our clients to monitor their assets more efficiently, resolve faults faster, and plan maintenance more effectively.
Our Teleport team focuses on increasing flexibility in the electricity grid. With our Teleport Gateway, owners of renewable energy sources and batteries can smartly control their assets and better respond to fluctuations in supply and demand. This helps both grid operators and energy producers accelerate the energy transition.
We collaborate with major players such as Vandebron, Groendus, Stedin, TenneT, Gasunie, Vattenfall, and Eneco. Would you like to contribute to this while further developing your technical and problem-solving skills? Keep reading!
Requirements
- Technically curious.
- You have at least 5 years of experience with power systems and are familiar with different control techniques of these systems, like active- and reactive power control and voltage and frequency control.
- You have at least 5 years of experience in a C-style programming language (preferably TypeScript or Rust), writing it on a day-to-day basis. You are eager to dive into new technologies and stay up to date.
- As a bonus, you have experience working with common communication protocols in the energy sector, like Modbus and IEC-104 on RS-485 and Ethernet.
- Technical design: You can design a complex system from the ground-up, designing and implementing a new control strategy.
- Classical Control: Proven ability to design derivative-based controllers (PID). You go beyond basic tuning, utilizing methods like system identification and can address real-world challenges such as integrator windup, noise amplification, and time delays.
- System Optimization: Experience formulating and solving optimization problems using techniques like linear programming. You have practical experience implementing these strategies on real-world power systems on resource-constrained hardware (e.g. limited CPU and memory). You have experience with solvers, like HiGHS, and addressing challenges related to numerical stability.
- Advanced Control (Highly Valued): Familiarity in modern control theory, specifically in developing state-space representations of dynamic systems for analysis and designing model predictive controllers to handle multivariable interactions and explicit system constraints is a significant plus.
- Proactive & independent. You take initiative, thrive in dynamic environments, and enjoy turning ambiguity into action.
- Customer-focused. You're motivated to understand user challenges and translate them into smart, scalable solutions for the Teleport platform.
- Business-aware. You can spot opportunities, align solutions with real-world needs, and communicate their value. Knowledge of the energy sector is a strong plus.
- Great communicator. You're confident in both written and spoken English (Dutch is a bonus), and comfortable working across teams and with customers., Do you want to make an impact in the energy transition and become part of a rapidly growing team? Let's get to know each other!
