Software Developer (Senior Consultant) Common Services

As a Senior Software Development Consultant, you'll contribute to mission-critical systems for one of our key UK Government clients, helping transform how citizens and legal professionals engage with the justice system. You'll bring technical curiosity, problem-solving strength and collaborative energy as you build secure, scalable services and influence technical direction. Working within a supportive community of experts, you'll take ownership of meaningful engineering challenges while contributing ideas that drive innovation and long-term client value., In this role, you will develop and enhance complex back-end systems that support major client services, taking ownership of the full engineering lifecycle. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams and client stakeholders to translate evolving needs into secure, scalable and high-quality software. You will have the opportunity to shape technical decisions, support continuous improvement and collaborate in an environment that encourages experimentation and shared problem-solving.

You'll contribute to cloud-based architecture, guide integration work and play a key role in maintaining service reliability. Key responsibilities include:

• Build & Enhance: Design, develop and evolve robust server-side applications using modern Java frameworks.

• Lead & Influence: Contribute to architectural decisions and technical design discussions.

• Collaborate & Support: Work closely with cross-functional teams, providing guidance on best practice and integration approaches.

• Deliver & Improve: Participate in Agile ceremonies and drive quality through CI/CD and automated pipelines.

• Integrate & Optimise: Manage large-scale component integration within complex web ecosystems.

• Stabilise & Resolve: Support incident and change management to ensure system reliability.

To succeed in this role, you'll bring strong back-end engineering experience, a solid understanding of cloud-based architecture and confidence working with modern development practices. You should be comfortable owning technical challenges, collaborating across distributed teams and delivering secure, scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Essential qualifications include:

• Strong Java development experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot and Hibernate.

• Proven experience with IDAM and building applications integrating with platforms such as ForgeRock, One Identity, Okta, Azure AD or Auth0.

• Hands-on experience with Jenkins, CI/CD, Git and modern DevOps practices.

• Knowledge of reverse engineering and working independently on Jira-managed workloads.

• Experience with Azure cloud architecture and Terraform (IaC) is highly desirable.

• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Experience with incident management, monitoring and observability tools.

Nice to have:

• Ansible, Front-end development experience, advanced CI/CD, broader Azure experience.
