Senior SRE Engineer

Our SRE Global team is responsible to roll-out the global SRE practices to improve the reliability of ING's critical services worldwide. The 'Operational practices' team is responsible for definition & roll-out of operational SRE practices like observability, major incident management, capacity planning & forecasting, reliability reporting & error budgeting.

Role & Responsibilities

• You will develop, innovate, mature & implement the operational SRE practices and related IT processes across ING, in cooperation with the entity-level SRE teams. Your overall purpose is to improve reliability of our critical IT & business services. You will define global standards for reliability practices. Ensure proper documentation, training material and other ways to get the knowledge to our engineers across ING.

• You contribute as a reliability expert to key operational activities with a focus on services or incidents touching multiple Tech entities; this includes performing critical business service / critical chain reviews to identify weaknesses to be solved and supporting global major incidents (as expert), provide expertise to ensure high quality root-cause analysis and ensure follow-up of structural findings with Tech domains.

• Your initial focus will be to lead development of ING's global observability strategy & ensure implementation across global platforms &services, global supporting tooling and entities. You will operate in strong cooperation with involved Enterprise Architects, entity SREs & engineers and the I&E monitoring team

• Particular focus will be on observability of our critical business services (critical chains/global services with biggest availability issues- getting everything in place from availability of the critical service, chain monitoring/tracing to monitoring & alerting for critical components/applications)Later on, focus will also be on other practices .

• Mature major incident management process (major incident mgt, problem mgt, post-mortem & root-cause analysis), mature capacity planning & forecasting practices, mature reliability reporting and introduction of Error budgeting How to succeed :

• 10-15+ Years in software engineering / IT operations and/or software architect roles

• Knowledgeable about technology in all levels in the technology stack (from infrastructure to front-end, from CI/CD to observability tooling) with expert knowledge & hands-on experience on one or more levels (. infrastructure & back-end development and/or observability & CI/CD tooling).

• Tools: ING Private cloud or Public cloud (Azure or Google cloud) and related VM/container stacks & tooling; application-level technologies & tooling heavily in use at ING . spring boot; java / kotlin; pega; Lit-html; ING's API SDK; Azure DevOps; or configuring/building out a CoTS solution within ING; Prometheus / ELK stack / Tracing or ING's specific implementations (.
