Job description
We are looking to hire an experienced 11kV SAP / Protection Engineer to support our HV operations across distribution networks and private networks. You will be responsible for ensuring safe system operation, HV switching, issuing safety documentation, and supporting protection systems-ensuring that all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with relevant regulations and client requirements.
This is a great opportunity for a capable and motivated engineer to join a growing team delivering high-quality HV services., * Act as Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for 11kV operations (and above if authorised)
- Plan and carry out HV switching, isolations, and restoration activities
- Produce and issue safety documentation including:
- Permits to Work (PTW)
- Sanctions for Test (SFT)
- Limitations of Access (LOA)
- Ensure compliance with:
- Company Safety Rules
- Electricity at Work Regulations
- Relevant DNO/IDNO procedures and standards
- Support and oversee HV commissioning activities and outage planning
- Undertake protection-related works, including:
- Protection relay testing and settings (as applicable)
- Fault investigation and reporting
- Basic protection design review/support (depending on experience)
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and on-site supervision of operational staff and contractors
- Liaise with clients, DNOs, ICPs, and project teams to coordinate safe delivery
- Maintain accurate documentation and operational records
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driving Licence license?, Do you have experience in Mentoring?, * Proven experience working as an 11kV SAP
- Strong working knowledge of HV safety rules and switching procedures
- Experience issuing HV safety documentation (PTW, LOA, SFT)
- Good understanding of protection systems and HV operational interfaces
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel to sites as required
Desirable Skills / Qualifications
- Authorisation above 11kV (e.g., 33kV)
- Experience with protection relays (e.g., Siemens, Schneider, ABB, SEL, GE)
- Experience in commissioning HV substations / switchgear
- Knowledge of private networks and/or renewable connections (solar, BESS, wind)
- Relevant qualification: HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
