Job description

Rate: Up to £468 Clearance: SC Clearance Required Contract Length: 6 months Location: Telford (2 days per week on-site)

Overview We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with strong software engineering skills to support transformation and data-processing activities within our Sage programme. The successful candidate must hold active SC Clearance and demonstrate expertise across Java, Unix-based environments, and XML/JSON data handling.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and optimise data-processing solutions within the Sage environment.
Perform complex XML transformations and splitting, including CRS-FATCA data handling.
Write robust, well-structured code using Java and Unix Shell Scripting.
Develop and maintain data integration workflows and pipelines.
Work with relational databases such as Oracle DB or MySQL, including writing efficient SQL queries.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support ETL, data ingestion, and transformation processes.
Troubleshoot production issues and ensure data accuracy, reliability, and performance.

Essential Skills & Experience

Active SC Clearance (mandatory).
Strong experience in Java development.
Proficiency in Unix Shell Scripting.
Hands-on experience working with JSON and XML formats.
Experience with relational databases: Oracle or MySQL.
Solid SQL skills for data extraction, manipulation, and performance optimisation

Desirable Skills

Experience with XML splitting and large-scale XML processing.
Exposure to ETL tools such as:
Talend
Pentaho
UTM
Experience in financial or compliance-related data processing (eg, CRS-FATCA).
